Book Description
Sky Angel By: Kris Owen Service to country binds three generations of the Gregg family. Their patriotism spans World War I, World War II, and Vietnam. Proud to wear the uniform of the United States Air Force, each of them has a different fate, but their allegiance remains impenetrable. An invisible thread connects the men throughout their life as they struggle in their own way to rise about the physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds that color their lives as a result of their experience. Born in the Baby Boomer generation, my mother, father, and several uncles served in World War II. Growing up, I heard stories of my Uncle John being taken prisoner, Although presumed dead, he was released at the end of the war. I’ll never forget my mother describing his emaciated appearance the first time she saw him and how it felt when she wrapped her arms around him to welcome him home. My grandfather served during World War I. I never heard details about his experience but, as a family, we went to the parades he marched in while in uniform, carrying the American flag. It wasn’t unusual to see my mother crying as her father marched by. The symbol of the American flag fills me with pride. In high school, the Vietnam Conflict was background noise to my prom, graduation, and first job. When I attended my fiftieth high school reunion, I was struck by the tree of departed classmates. So many lost their young lives in Vietnam. It captured my attention. As a result, Sky Angel floated to the surface and was born. I admire the strength and courage it takes to be a part of our armed services, no matter what the branch. Sky Angel is a human story of a family who struggled with the good, the bad, and the ugliness of war.

Book Description
A girl comes of age in the radical 1960s in this “beautifully written” novel by the groundbreaking author of The Women’s Room (Kate Mosse). It’s 1968 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Jess Leighton, the daughter of a temperamental painter and a proto-feminist Harvard professor, is struggling to make sense of her world amid racial tensions, Vietnam War protests, anti-government rage, her own burgeoning sexuality, and bad relationships. With more options than her mother’s generation, but no role model for creating the life she desires, Jess experiments with sex and psychedelic drugs as she searches for happiness on her own terms. In the midst of joining and fleeing a commune, growing organic vegetables, and operating a sustainable restaurant, Jess grapples with the legacy of her mother’s generation while building a future for herself, and for the postmodern woman. “French’s meticulous and affecting tale of the forging of one woman’s conscience encompasses thoughtful portraits of ‘love children,’ from peace activists to members of unconventional families, and a forthright critique of the counterculture that puts today’s wars, struggles for equality, and environmental troubles into sharp perspective” (Booklist).

Book Description
Even at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, you could see the compassion of Jesus in medical workers around the globe—as well as in everyday citizens who pulled together in a bid to end the virus. Barbara Robbins-Ripps, who wrote this book during the pandemic, pays tribute to these heroes while also honoring our Lord and Savior, who is with us always. Her testimony is an invitation for everyone to reflect on their journey, even when going through challenging and uncertain times. Throughout the book, she highlights individuals in her life who’ve made a difference. With her heart aching over seeing so much death and uncertainty, her intent is to call attention to heroes that make a difference on a daily basis—even when it means risking their lives. Through sickness, health, death, and everything in between, there is always hope in the promises of God. Look to His love to overcome obstacles and move forward with courage.
