Book Description
An undeniably celebratory and deeply troubling manifesto for the unrepentant bitch, this sharp-edged collection (of fiction, prose poetry, personal essays, photographs and illustrations) recognises femme as an identity in flux and in motion. Such critically acclaimed writers as Camilla Gibb, Sky Gilbert, Michelle Tea, Amber Hollibaugh and Anurima Banerji unapologetically refuse definitions while exploring their desire to make femininity fit their own queer frames. Darlings, drag queens, whores and action heroes... a femme by any other name is spectacular.

Book Description
An extensively revised and updated edition of the bestselling biography of Harper Lee, reframed from the perspective of the recent publication of Lee's Go Set a Watchman To Kill a Mockingbird—the twentieth century's most widely read American novel—has sold thirty million copies and still sells a million yearly. In this in-depth biography, first published in 2006, Charles J. Shields brings to life the woman who gave us two of American literature's most unforgettable characters, Atticus Finch and his daughter, Scout. Years after its initial publication—with revisions throughout the book and a new epilogue—Shields finishes the story of Harper Lee's life, up to its end. There's her former agent getting her to transfer the copyright for To Kill a Mockingbird to him, the death of Lee's dear sister Alice, a fuller portrait of Lee’s editor, Tay Hohoff, and—most vitally—the release of Lee's long-buried first novel and the ensuing public devouring of what has truly become the book of the year, if not the decade: Lee's Go Set a Watchman.

Book Description
Faye Blakemore is a photojournalist for a major New York newspaper. Faye has been taking photos since she was a small child, taught by her photographer grandfather, after spending hours in the strange blood-red light of his darkroom. Now Faye specializes in what one reviewer calls, “blood-and-guts journalism.” Her first book of photos is as celebrated as it is controversial—and as harrowing. Faye convinces her editor to send her to Afghanistan and the Congo to report on the acid burnings, the machete attacks, and the women survivors. Yet that series of assignments—each darker and more dangerous than the next—brings Faye closer to her both her own demons and to the family secrets that still haunt her and threaten to destroy her and the woman she loves.

Book Description
"Orlando: A Biography" is a fictional work published in 1928. Virginia Woolf was an English author, essayist, publisher, and writer of short stories, regarded as one of the foremost modernist literary figures of the twentieth century. The novel is semi-biographical based and dedicated to Woolf's lover Vita Sackville-West. Well regarded for its impact on gender studies and the stylized approach in which it portrays women. Woolf allowed neither time nor gender to constrain her writing. The protagonist, Orlando, ages only thirty-six years and changes gender from man to woman. This pseudo-biography satirizes more traditional Victorian biographies that emphasize facts and truth in their subjects' lives. "The Well of Loneliness" is a lesbian novel by British author Radclyffe Hall that was first published in 1928 by Jonathan Cape. It follows the life of Stephen Gordon, an Englishwoman from an upper-class family whose "sexual inversion" (homosexuality) is apparent from an early age. She finds love with Mary Llewellyn, whom she meets while serving as an ambulance driver in World War I, but their happiness together is marred by social isolation and rejection, which Hall depicts as typically suffered by "inverts", with predictably debilitating effects. The novel portrays "inversion" as a natural, God-given state and makes an explicit plea: "Give us also the right to our existence". "Carmilla" is narrated by a young woman preyed upon by a female vampire named Carmilla, later revealed to be Mircalla, Countess Karnstein (Carmilla is an anagram of Mircalla). Le Fanu presents the story as part of the casebook of Dr. Hesselius, whose departures from medical orthodoxy rank him as the first occult doctor in literature. The story is one of the earliest works of vampire fiction, predating Bram Stoker's Dracula (1897) by 26 years.

The little harlot who'll sleep with anything that moves.” After ending my marriage and uprooting my teenage son to my hometown against his wishes, I knew things would be tough at first. But with the good weather, the chance to be close to my parents, and the opportunity to reconnect with old friends, it seemed like a good idea at the time. And it was, until she came into my life. The infamous Casey Adams, a woman who'd succeeded in turning the whole street against her just by being irresistible. I wasn't going to let her get under my skin... But it's difficult when she's always there, right next door, being so friendly and beautiful, being the opposite of what everyone described. Awakening within me feelings I didn't know existed. Who can resist that? Part Two - “She'll take everything from you, bleed you dry, spit you out and move on to the next gullible person who gives her the time of day. Staying away from her from now on is your best option.” Getting closer to Casey was a choice; falling for her was out of my control. Everyone warned me to stay away from her. But that just made me want her even more. For the first time in my life I was letting my body do the thinking. And now I could lose everything. My comfortable life, my family. Book Description
A Time Magazine Top 10 Nonfiction book of 2011 A Publishers Weekly Best Nonfiction title for 2011 On a hill above the Italian village of Ravello sits the Villa Cimbrone, a place of fantasy and make-believe. The characters that move through Michael Holroyd's new book are destined never to meet, yet the Villa Cimbrone unites them all. A Book of Secrets is a treasure trove of hidden lives, uncelebrated achievements, and family mysteries. With grace and tender imagination, Holroyd brings a company of unknown women into the light. From Alice Keppel, the mistress of both the second Lord Grimthorpe and the Prince of Wales; to Eve Fairfax, a muse of Auguste Rodin; to the novelist Violet Trefusis, the lover of Vita Sackville-West—these women are always on the periphery of the respectable world. Also on the margins is the elusive biographer, who on occasion turns an appraising eye upon himself as part of his investigations in the maze of biography. In A Book of Secrets, Holroyd gives voice to fragile human connections and the mystery of place.
