Book Description
Millennials can be valuable assets to arts and cultural organizations. Through volunteerism, these organizations can build a strong relationship with this generation that can last into the future. Until this point, however, little research has been done to determine how arts and cultural organizations can motivate millennials to volunteer with their organizations. Through an online survey of millennials and interviews with volunteer managers and volunteers for arts and cultural organizations in Philadelphia, a model for best practices to motivate and maintain millennial volunteers can be developed. Arts organizations should focus on visibility of their volunteer opportunities highlighting their potential impact, providing flexible options for participation, and building a strong community within their organizations to appeal to this demographic.

Book Description
Attracting and motivating volunteers, especially younger generation volunteers, is a critical but not easy task for leaders in nonprofit sector. This paper examines what factors have been found to motivate Generation Y to volunteer in nonprofit organizations. Furthermore, the paper focuses on examining literature pertaining to help nonprofit organizations gain information about attraction and retention of younger volunteers. The trends learned from literature review have shown that Millennial volunteers are most likely to volunteer when they want to self-improve (professionally, academically), learn new skills, help disadvantaged, develop identity through association with nonprofit organization, socialize, meet new friends, and establish social network. Finally, Millennials are most likely to volunteer when they can relate their values, interests, hobbies, etc. to the mission/purpose of a nonprofit organization.

In order to build a solid theoretical understanding of the main research question, the author aims to answer sub-questions, such as what motivates people in general to engage and carry on with volunteering? What are the needs and expectations of Millennials to stay motivated at their workplace? Finally, which organizational factors can keep Millennial volunteers driven for longer than one year?In this research, the focus is on Millennials and volunteering, especially the volunteers of a Hungarian charity organization, Amigos for Children Foundation.Amigos is a recognized Hungarian non-profit initiative helping children suffering from chronic diseases. The team consists of university students who are eager to make the world a better place. They want to ease the pain and brighten the days of children through learning languages and playing. Amigos has made more than 1000 chronically ill, hospitalized children smile during its 5 years of existence, by teaching them languages and simply being friends.

Book Description
For my capstone project I explored the dynamics of art volunteer motivations, training, and retention practices. It gives a broad over view of the dynamics of art volunteers and organizations that utilize art volunteers. I performed semi-structured interviews, observations, and reviewed organizational literature. I investigated resources for, and practices of art volunteers and organizations that utilize them. I intended my analysis to provide art education communities, including museums and art centers, with a critical understanding of this topic. I found that art volunteers are motivated to connect with others and be personally edified. I also found that organizations utilizing art volunteers impact volunteer satisfaction or stress through their preparation and training efforts. I found that clear and comfortable expectations by and for art volunteers fosters retention of their services. Finally, I found that when organizations expressed gratification for art volunteers it helped to ensure volunteer retention. Ultimately, the success of art volunteer endeavors is determined by leadership approaches implemented by the organizations that utilize their services. In addition to this paper, I present my capstone research in a series of small narrative case studies in an ISSUU document (which can be accessed at http://issuu.com/riccijustis/docs/justiscreativegiving/1). The paper and ISSUU shares the best practices for understanding volunteer motives, implementing training, and ensuring retention through unique and dynamic individual stories.
