Book Description
The Malone Cook Book by the Ladies Aid Society of the First Congregational Church of Malone, New York, is a modern rendering of the book's 1917 version, one of many early printings beginning in 1882. Incredibly, the book contains more than 1700 recipes collected over the course of several decades. This is a book of history as well as food, describing many unusual dishes that arrived with immigrant families and were passed on to subsequent generations. The names of those who provided recipes have been included as well. Learn many of the standards, plus such unusual dishes as Salmon Wiggle, Hash Balls, Apples Stuffed with Onions, Scotch Woodcock, and Washington Cake. Are you a bread fan? How about an Olive Sandwich, or a Marshmallow Sandwich? Or maybe a tasty Cheese Jelly Sandwich? They're all here, and more. You'll find at least 70 types of pudding including John's Delight, Suet, Coffee, Puff, Woodford, Brown Betty, Cottage, Peach Sponge, and Prune Soufflé. Desserts and extras? There's Cantaloupe Coupe Ice Cream, Domestic Economy Cake, Hermits, Shingles, Killiecrankies, Pickled Sickle Pears, Horse's Neck, Blushing Bunny, English Monkey, and Spermaceti Salve. Enjoy!

Book Description
Excerpt from The West Bend Cook Book: Compiled From Recipes Contributed by Ladies of West Bend Recipes, like friends, must be tested before their worth is proved, and since "the proof of the pudding is the eating," the compilers of this title volume take pleasure in assuring their readers that the toothsome dishes herein described will bear that best. The descendants of the noble pioneer women of our state are worthy successors to their mothers and grandmothers in the art of domestic cookery, and it is to their generous co-operation that we are indebted for the choice recipes contained within these pages. German, American and French have given liberally of their store so that our West Bend Cook Book will be found to embrace a great variety. We do not claim that this little work is comprehensive in detail, for much has been omitted which is to be found in the ordinary cook book, but we have aimed to gather together some of the choicest recipes of our German-American and French-American cousins whose untiring efforts have helped in such great degree to make our beautiful Wisconsin the prosperous state it is to-day. With this explanation we beg that our readers will be "To our faults a little blind, And to our virtues very kind." - M. B. W.
