Book Description
Models of Sharing Graphs presents a sound mathematical basis for reasoning about models of computation involving shared resources, including graph rewriting systems, denotational semantics and concurrency theory. An algebraic approach, based on the language of category theory, is taken throughout this work, which enables the author to describe several aspects of the notion of sharing in a systematic way. In particular, a novel account of recursive computation created from cyclic sharing is developed using this framework.

Book Description
Graph-structured data is ubiquitous throughout the natural and social sciences, from telecommunication networks to quantum chemistry. Building relational inductive biases into deep learning architectures is crucial for creating systems that can learn, reason, and generalize from this kind of data. Recent years have seen a surge in research on graph representation learning, including techniques for deep graph embeddings, generalizations of convolutional neural networks to graph-structured data, and neural message-passing approaches inspired by belief propagation. These advances in graph representation learning have led to new state-of-the-art results in numerous domains, including chemical synthesis, 3D vision, recommender systems, question answering, and social network analysis. This book provides a synthesis and overview of graph representation learning. It begins with a discussion of the goals of graph representation learning as well as key methodological foundations in graph theory and network analysis. Following this, the book introduces and reviews methods for learning node embeddings, including random-walk-based methods and applications to knowledge graphs. It then provides a technical synthesis and introduction to the highly successful graph neural network (GNN) formalism, which has become a dominant and fast-growing paradigm for deep learning with graph data. The book concludes with a synthesis of recent advancements in deep generative models for graphs—a nascent but quickly growing subset of graph representation learning.

Book Description
The book provides an encompassing overview of all aspects relating to the sharing economy paradigm in different fields of study, and shows the ongoing research efforts in filling previously identified gaps in understanding in this area. Control and optimization analytics for the sharing economy explores bespoke analytics, tools, and business models that can be used to help design collaborative consumption services (the shared economy). It provides case studies of collaborative consumption in the areas of energy and mobility. The contributors review successful examples of sharing systems, and explore the theory for designing effective and stable shared-economy models. They discuss recent innovations in and uses of shared economy models in niche areas, such as energy and mobility. Readers learn the scientific challenging issues associated with the realization of a sharing economy. Conceptual and practical matters are examined, and the state-of-the-art tools and techniques to address such applications are explained. The contributors also show readers how topical problems in engineering, such as energy consumption in power grids, or bike sharing in transportation networks, can be formulated and solved from a general collaborative consumption perspective. Since the book takes a mathematical perspective to the topic, researchers in business, computer science, optimization and control find it useful. Practitioners also use the book as a point of reference, as it explores and investigates the analytics behind economy sharing.

Book Description
Modern information and communication technologies make it easier for individuals to be involved in their own health and social care. They also facilitate contact between individuals and service providers and deliver more efficient tools for healthcare staff. Artificial Intelligence (AI) promises to bring even more benefits in the future, with more effectiveness and the provision of decision support. This book presents the proceedings of the 33rd Medical Informatics Europe Conference, MIE2023, held in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 22 to 25 May 2023. The theme of MIE2023 was ‘Caring is Sharing – Exploiting Value in Data for Health and Innovation’, stressing the increasing importance of sharing digital-health data and the related challenges. The sharing of health data is developing rapidly, both in Europe and beyond, so the focus of the conference was on the enabling of trustworthy sharing of data to improve health. Topics covered include healthcare, community care, self-care, public health, and the innovation and development of future-proof digital-health solutions, and the almost 300 papers divided into 10 chapters also cover important advances in the sub domains of biomedical informatics: decision support systems, clinical information systems, clinical research informatics, knowledge management and representation, consumer health informatics, natural language processing, public health informatics, privacy, ethical and societal aspects among them. Describing innovative approaches to the collection, organization, analysis, and data-sharing related to health and wellbeing, the book contributes to the expertise required to take medical informatics to the next level, and will be of interest to all those working in the field.

Book Description
Teaching Science in Elementary and Middle School offers in-depth information about the fundamental features of project-based science and strategies for implementing the approach. In project-based science classrooms students investigate, use technology, develop artifacts, collaborate, and make products to show what they have learned. Paralleling what scientists do, project-based science represents the essence of inquiry and the nature of science. Because project-based science is a method aligned with what is known about how to help all children learn science, it not only helps students learn science more thoroughly and deeply, it also helps them experience the joy of doing science. Project-based science embodies the principles in A Framework for K-12 Science Education and the Next Generation Science Standards. Blending principles of learning and motivation with practical teaching ideas, this text shows how project-based learning is related to ideas in the Framework and provides concrete strategies for meeting its goals. Features include long-term, interdisciplinary, student-centered lessons; scenarios; learning activities, and "Connecting to Framework for K–12 Science Education" textboxes. More concise than previous editions, the Fourth Edition offers a wealth of supplementary material on a new Companion Website, including many videos showing a teacher and class in a project environment.
