UNE CHAINE DE MESURE UTILISANT LES TECHNIQUES ULTRASONORES A ETE DEVELOPPEE EN VUE D'ETUDIER LES ECOULEMENTS DANS LES CONDUITES DEFORMABLES. DE TELLES TECHNIQUES SONT NON INVASIVES ET PERMETTENT D'EFFECTUER LES MESURES SANS MODIFIER LE COMPORTEMENT DES CONDUITES. LA CHAINE DE MESURE UTILISE UN VELOCIMETRE ULTRASONORE DOPPLER PULSE DECAPORTE COUPLE A UN ECHOGRAPHE EN MODE TEMPS-MOUVEMENT. CET APPAREIL EST RELIE A UN MICROCALCULATEUR PAR UNE INTERFACE MULTIFONCTION REALISEE DANS NOTRE LABORATOIRE ET DONT LES ROLES SONT (I) LA GESTION DE LA CHAINE DE MESURE ET (II) LE TRAITEMENT DES SIGNAUX DELIVRES PAR LE VELOCIMETRE-ECHOGRAPHE. LE SIGNAL DES ECHOS RECUS EST NUMERISE ET CONVERTI EN UNE IMAGE TEMPS-MOUVEMENT QUI VISUALISE LE MOUVEMENT DES PAROIS. LES DIX SIGNAUX DOPPLER DE VITESSE SONT EGALEMENT NUMERISES ET LEURS POINTS DE MESURE SONT DETECTES. CES DERNIERES DONNEES PEUVENT ETRE COMBINEES DANS L'IMAGE TEMPS-MOUVEMENT POUR FOURNIR UNE DESCRIPTION TOTALE DE LA DYNAMIQUE DES PAROIS ET DU FLUIDE. ELLES PEUVENT ETRE AUSSI SAUVEGARDEES POUR LES TRAITEMENTS ULTERIEURS. LA CHAINE DE MESURE A ETE TESTEE ET CALIBREE A L'AIDE D'ECOULEMENTS DANS DES CONDUITES CIRCULAIRES RIGIDES. LES RESULTATS OBTENUS ONT ETE SATISFAISANTS POUR LES ECOULEMENTS STATIONNAIRES ET DECRIVENT CONVENABLEMENT LES VITESSES DANS LES ECOULEMENTS PULSES. NEANMOINS, DES LIMITATIONS EN PRECISION ONT ETE RELEVEES DANS CE DERNIER CAS. DES MESURES PRELIMINAIRES ONT ETE REALISEES SUR LES CONDUITES DEFORMABLES. ELLES ONT MONTRE DES RESULTATS POSITIFS ET ONT PROUVE QUE LA CHAINE DE MESURE ETAIT CONVENABLEMENT ADAPTEE POUR DE TELLES ETUDES EXPERIMENTALES

Book Description
This book deals with a wide class of novel and efficient adaptive signal processing techniques developed to restore signals from noisy and degraded observations. These signals include those acquired from still or video cameras, electron microscopes, radar, X-rays, or ultrasound devices, and are used for various purposes, including entertainment, medical, business, industrial, military, civil, security, and scientific. In many cases useful information and high quality must be extracted from the imaging. However, often raw signals are not directly suitable for this purpose and must be processed in some way. Such processing is called signal reconstruction. This book is devoted to a recent and original approach to signal reconstruction based on combining two independent ideas: local polynomial approximation and the intersection of confidence interval rule.

Book Description
Excerpt from the prologue written by the author MANOLIS ANDRONICOS, "It has been necessary to try to produce a text which will serve the needs of the specialist without ignoring those of the general reader. Such attempts are far from easy in execution and not infrequently succeed only in sacrificing academic integrity without providing adequate information for the non-specialist. It is not for me to say if I have achieved what I set out to do. Nevertheless, in addition to the text, there are the illustrations to the book which I believe contribute to the success of its purpose as I have defined it. A picture is always the best means - after the objects themselves - for every reader, specialist or not, to gain a closer idea of archaeological finds. Once I had decided to write the book I considered it essential not to limit myself to the recent impressive finds from the royal tombs, but to set before the reader a synoptic but solid account of all the archaeological finds in the area. In this way its considerable interest becomes comprehensible - an area which has yielded graves containing hand-made prehistoric pottery and bronze jewellery, a magnificent architectural complex dating to the last years of the fourth century, the theatre of a city, a small temple and a series of monumental Macedonian tombs with unique painted compositions of the classical period, masterpieces of jewellery made by Greek goldsmiths, of miniature sculpture and the most magnificent products of Greek metalworking. The brilliance of the latter sheds new light on the older finds so that these acquire their proper perspective. In addition to all this, the finds from Vergina provide new information about Macedonian Hellenism, our knowledge of which so far is based almost exclusively on literary sources emanating from Athens. It is natural that that city, the only serious political rival to Macedonia, should frequently distort its enemy's true face and denigrate its historical contribution to the development of Hellenism, at least before the meteoric rise of Alexander the Great."

Book Description
The ancient Greeks traveled widely by sea and founded colonies in far-flung locations. On the north coast of the Black Sea were a number of such Greek settlements, places where the Greeks made contact with the local Scythian population. Greek goods were traded extensively throughout the region, and many of these often-luxurious articles eventually made their way into tombs. From its wealth of such Greek finds from the Black Sea, the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg has lent some 175 Greek objects to an exhibition at the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa. This richly illustrated catalogue to the exhibition presents nine essays on the archaeology of the northern Black Sea region and its history, culture, and art, including sculpture, pottery, gems, and jewelry. Written by curators at the State Hermitage Museum, Greeks on the Black Sea presents an intriguing world at once Greek and barbarian.
