Book Description
Cooling of buildings using a solar energy absorption system is studied analytically. Simulation is done for a three TR absorption-air conditioning system to supply cooling to a proposed 100 square meter house under Beirut's weather conditions The thermal performance of forced circulation flat plate solar collectors is simulated numerically using DufTie and Beckman model with a fully mixed storage tank [1,2]. The absorption system generator is simulated so as to calculate the required load from the solar system. Thermodynamic properties of the cooling absorption system are calculated in the program at different points of the system cycle, and the absorption system's performance is predicted for different operating conditions including generator load and condenser temperature. For the cooling load; good results are attained. For collector area of 80.4 About six hours of solar energy-dependent cooling per day is reached during the five months: May, June, July, August, and September. In addition, domestic hot water was supplied from the tank for domestic use. The yearly solar fraction for these months these months ranged in the neighborhood of 20%. This analysis is performed by using the design days for the summer months as suggested by Beckman [2] and assuming that system does not have extra storage of thermal energy for night use. Finally the cost analysis showed that the pay back period of the system is between 14-15 years compared to conventional vapor compression system.

Book Description
The bible of solar engineering that translates solar energy theory to practice, revised and updated The updated Fifth Edition of Solar Engineering of Thermal Processes, Photovoltaics and Wind contains the fundamentals of solar energy and explains how we get energy from the sun. The authors—noted experts on the topic—provide an introduction to the technologies that harvest, store, and deliver solar energy, such as photovoltaics, solar heaters, and cells. The book also explores the applications of solar technologies and shows how they are applied in various sectors of the marketplace. The revised Fifth Edition offers guidance for using two key engineering software applications, Engineering Equation Solver (EES) and System Advisor Model (SAM). These applications aid in solving complex equations quickly and help with performing long-term or annual simulations. The new edition includes all-new examples, performance data, and photos of current solar energy applications. In addition, the chapter on concentrating solar power is updated and expanded. The practice problems in the Appendix are also updated, and instructors have access to an updated print Solutions Manual. This important book: • Covers all aspects of solar engineering from basic theory to the design of solar technology • Offers in-depth guidance and demonstrations of Engineering Equation Solver (EES) and System Advisor Model (SAM) software • Contains all-new examples, performance data, and photos of solar energy systems today • Includes updated simulation problems and a solutions manual for instructors Written for students and practicing professionals in power and energy industries as well as those in research and government labs, Solar Engineering of Thermal Processes, Fifth Edition continues to be the leading solar engineering text and reference.

Book Description
Purpose of ongoing book is providing a tool for suitable modeling, increase efficiency and decrease construction cost of solar absorption chiller. At first, the solar absorption chiller is modeled by the thermodynamic laws. Then, this model is converted to the new standard mathematical programming model using exergy and thermodynamic analysis with considering all technical and economic constrains. This mathematical model is optimized by Genetic algorithm (GA). Because of the nonlinear objective function and the constraint, GA is used as optimization algorithm. After applying GA, optimized parameters of cycle heat exchanger designing and its electricity consumption are calculated. These parameters consist of heat exchanger effectiveness, heat transfer cross section area, heat transfer coefficient, efficiency of pump and motor. Designing a storage system is necessary for supporting system when sunshine is not received adequately, especially at night. Therefore, in the second a rectangular storage system with Phase Change Material (PCM) technique designs that its main parameters were calculated by enthalpy and finite element methods.
