This research has been undertaken to deal with the problem of relation between God and the world in the context of an inadequate treatment of this persistent issue in Sankara's Advaita Vedanta, the predominant school of Hindu philosophy. The central focus of this dissertation is to develop a theology of mission based on reflecting and appropriating the theological, philosophical and missiological implications of the Christian concept of creation. This is done with special reference to distinction and relation between God and the world and its implications in the context of Advaita philosophy. Sankaras philosophical perspective on creation is analyzed in the context of his pre-commitment to non-dualism (Advaita). The basic problem of his position is identified as an inherent inability to explain the distinct reality and existence of the world and consequently a proper relation between God and the world. This problem is further clarified and addressed in the light of other Vedantic/Neo-Vedantic philosophers who have responded to Sankara's worldview. As a result, in view of Sankara and subsequent Vedantic philosophers inability to resolve the issue adequately, a specifically Christian theology of creation is presented as the only solution to the problem of relation between God and the world. This approach develops a perspective of "Wholistic Realism" as a meaningful method and message in the context of the Advaitic idea of ontological oneness which emphasizes wholeness at the expense of distinctness and thereby denies the reality of the world. Thus this dissertation affirms that the perspective of "Wholistic Realism" brings together the biblical concepts of creation, relation, alienation, redemption and new creation to present the meaningful message of the gospel in the context of Sankara's nondualistic philosophy. And this indicates the missiological significance of the Christian concept of creation in the context of Advaita Vedanta philosophy.

In view of the critical environmental problems confronting the modern world, reflection on the nature and meaning of the world and on humanity's place in it becomes increasingly important. While Christian theology has done this for centuries, the present situation calls for a serious rethinking of many issues in the light of contemporary physics, biology, and cultural history. The Gift of Being presents insights of the sciences in a way that is helpful for Christians today. Creation theology helps believers come to a stronger sense of their own identity as they come to an awareness of the world. This enables them to gain a deeper insight into how they ought to relate to that world if they wish to find meaning in their lives. This state of being requires a willingness to distinguish between the medium and the message in approaching the Scriptures. It also requires a willingness to take the sciences seriously. In The Gift of Being, Hayes focuses on traditional questions of creation, but also comments on where science is with creation, anthropology, and destiny. He begins by discussing the relation between faith and reason, and hence between theology and science, from a historical perspective, moving to the most current statements of modern Popes. He follows with a summary statement of the possible retrieval of the biblical religious insights that can be distinguished from the physical worldview that stands behind much of the biblical material. This allows for a discussion of the traditional concept of creation from nothing in the form of a conversation with contemporary physics. Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) is one of the most important thinkers of the Christian Tradition. Ironically, little is known about his Christology. Lesser still is that which which is known about the philosophical commitments that undergird much of thinking about the God-man. In A Treatise on Jonathan Edwards, Continuous Creation and Christology, S. Mark Hamilton shows that Edwards has much more to say about the nature of the person of Christ that is both significant and original than has been believed to this point. Hamilton's Treatise tackles Edwards' unique understanding of the God-world relationship and how that understanding bears upon his doctrine of the person of Christ. Equal-parts philosophical clarification and theological construction, and offering a number of truly original insights, Hamilton makes the convincing case that Edwards' commitment to the idea that God somehow creates the universe out of nothing every moment does not, as some have hitherto supposed, imperil his commitment to an orthodox Christology.
