The city is protected from extreme temperature in winter and summer by the nearby mountain peaks that rise thousands of feet in height. It enjoys a year round climate that is unexcelled any where. The difference between the mean July temperature and that of January is only degrees, while the difference between the annual mean temperature and that of July is only 17 1 degrees. Canton is also protected from the storms of the Middle Western Plains. The summer nights are cooled by the mountain breezes and the temperature frequently ranges as low as 20 degrees lower than that of midday.
