Rattle, an engineer in the service of the board, as instructed to make an accurate surrey and estimate on both sides of the \vesc branch from Northumberland to the mouth at Bald Eagle. His red port of these surveys having been laid before the board, at their session in August, and it appealing to their satisfaction, that the left bank of the riter uas decidedly preferable, a portion of canal on that bank. Commencing at Northumberland, and extending up ward to the Money llills, 23 miles, was placed under contract on the first ot'uctober. Bincc that pet iod the work has been commend ccd on every section, and uithin the present week payments will have been made to the amount of As this line presents unusual facilities, no doubt is entertained of its completion within the coming year.
