Book Description
Falling in love is a bit like running a race--it's not easy for anyone. Meet Me at Fountain Park Everything changes, or at least that’s what they say. For Missy Lawrence, this old adage just doesn’t fit. Her life has come to an unsolicited standstill. Her job as a news reporter for WSTA-Charlotte is miraculously mundane and her love life is practically non-existent. Even though she tries, she can’t seem to pull herself out of this rut. While she’s stuck in between, all of her friends are finding themselves in a flurry of activities: Brooklyn’s moving in with Duke, Benson and Jack are heading across the country in search of stardom, and Adair is preparing to walk down the aisle and wed the man of her dreams. As her social engagements pile up, she notices that her calendar has reached maximum capacity because of her friends and their obligations. Missy now realizes that she is going to have to make a huge decision: Will she stay in the past or will she join her capricious pals and take a leap of her own? Reader Reviews: Mindy Killgrove builds the story of a modern young woman and her group of friends in this second novel in the Missy Lawrence Trilogy: Meet Me at Fountain Park. With a delicious blend of humor, sex appeal, and naivety, Killgrove takes the reader inside the eyes of the protagonist and allows them to ponder some of life’s biggest questions. This novel is the perfect beach blanket read and can be devoured on one sunny afternoon. Again, Missy Lawrence and her band of fabulous friends drew me in and entertained me throughout this entire second installment of Killgrove's Missy Lawrence Trilogy. I felt her characters were so accessible, and the ups and downs they found themselves in throughout the work so relatable, that I'm really looking forward to her third installment (although I will be sad when there isn't any new material). This was such a great sophomoric release that I highly recommend it to all would-be Missy Lawrence fans!

The Moment of Everything
Author: Shelly King
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
ISBN: 145554678X
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 223
Book Description
In the tradition of The Cookbook Collector comes a funny, romantic novel about a young woman finding her calling while saving a used bookstore. Maggie Duprv®s, recently "involuntarily separated from payroll" at a Silicon Valley startup, is whiling away her days in The Dragonfly's Used Books, a Mountain View institution, waiting for the Next Big Thing to come along. When the opportunity arises for her to network at a Bay Area book club, she jumps at the chance-even if it means having to read Lady Chatterley's Lover, a book she hasn't encountered since college, in an evening. But the edition she finds at the bookstore is no Penguin Classics Chatterley-it's an ancient hardcover with notes in the margins between two besotted lovers of long ago. What Maggie finds in her search for the lovers and their fate, and what she learns about herself in the process, will surprise and move readers. Witty and sharp-eyed in its treatment of tech world excesses, but with real warmth at its core, The Moment of Everything is a wonderful read.

Casual Affairs
Author: Maryellen V. Keefe
Publisher: SUNY Press
ISBN: 1438450893
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 470
Book Description
Follows the life and career of Sally Benson, acclaimed writer of New Yorker fiction and Hollywood screenplays. In Casual Affairs, Maryellen V. Keefe vividly follows the life and career of Sally Benson, the New Yorker writer remembered by generations of moviegoers for Meet Me in St. Louis, the film that brought her family to life. Keefe traces Bensons life from her childhood in St. Louis to marriage and motherhood to her award-winning fiction career and her success as a Hollywood screenwriter. Through the Jazz Age and into the 1930s and 40s, Benson negotiated the transition from domesticity to the marketplace, becoming a full-fledged career woman while juggling her responsibilities as a wife and mother and indulging in several quiet little affairs. She succeeded early in a profession dominated by men, forging her way in a largely male world and winning the support and friendship of colleagues and editors. Benson established herself as a writer known for brutally honest portraits of middle-class women much like herself. Impeccably researched and highly entertaining, this long-awaited biography of Sally Benson will find an important place in the history of American theater, film, and belles lettres. Donald Spoto, biographer of Alfred Hitchcock, Tennessee Williams, Laurence Olivier, and others Finally a biographer capable of bringing the brilliant and outrageous Sally Benson to life! And what a life it was for a woman, who began a long career writing for the New Yorker in 1929 and Hollywood in the forties. Keefes vivid account, which draws on family papers as it traces Bensons personal and professional ups and downs, is also the story of a generation of young women eager to balance work and family. Readers who know Benson primarily from the film Meet Me in St. Louis will come to know her as a stylist every bit as talented as Dorothy Parker and with the same wonderful flair. Susan Goodman, author of Republic of Words: The Atlantic Monthly and Its Writers, 18571925

Meet Me at Clayborne's
Author: Amy Knupp
Publisher: Lake House Books
ISBN:
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 764
Book Description
“The entire Hale Street series receives my highest praise.”—Reader review Bartender Kennedy’s new boss has her both shaken and stirred. Barmaid Asia strives to keep her past a secret from a sexy but persistent CEO. Entertainment manager Sloan helps a grieving drummer find a second chance…and more. Immerse yourself in Amy Knupp’s first three Hale Street stories instantly! SWEET SPOT: A bartender, a bakery girl, and a past full of mistakes… Former marketing whiz Kennedy Lowell knows bartending isn’t her destiny. After derailing her life to epic proportions, though, she’s content with the easy refuge of pouring drinks and keeping to herself. But the arrival of her sexy new boss has her both shaken and stirred. Add the temptation of a bakery in need of a marketing guru and Kennedy begins to wonder if easy is all it’s cracked up to be. Easy is Hunter Clayborne’s middle name. Uncomplicated is what he expects when he moves back to Nashville to take over the family business. What he finds is the polar opposite of easy—a bar losing money, a family entrenched in its old-fashioned ways, and an irresistible bartender who keeps him at a distance in spite of their sizzling mutual attraction. Hunter tries to prove he’s a good-hearted, trustworthy guy, but what if Kennedy is her own worst enemy? Can he help her see herself through his eyes before it’s too late? SOFT SPOT: It’s all fun and games until the sexy CEO wants to know her secrets… Asia Knowles’ life has been on a downhill slide for as long as she can remember, but with her promotion and her new apartment on charming Hale Street, things are finally starting to look up. When polished and persistent and tough-to-resist Jackson barges into her world, Asia does what she can to keep her less-than-sparkling background to herself. CEO Jackson Lowell has worked hard for everything he has—perhaps a little too single-mindedly. When a friend challenges him to go on a “real” date, not a business function with a blind date, Asia seems like the perfect choice. Everything from her sunshine-bright outfits to her don’t-get-too-close vibe draws him in. Asia finds it hard to ignore Jackson’s charm, but she’s conditioned to keep her secrets close to her chest. The more she shuts him out, the more determined he becomes to get to know her anyway. If she finally lets him in, will he cut his losses or realize the biggest payoff ever? ONE AND ONLY: Second-best will never be good enough. Drummer Micah Sullivan lost his music and his dreams when his wife died unexpectedly. In the aftermath, he quit his band and pushed away family and friends. Three years later, he’s opened a music shop and tells himself he’s content trying to make it a hit. What he failed to consider is that success requires connections—including the very ones he turned his back on. When Sloan McGuire takes a job at a bar as the entertainment manager, she doesn’t expect to run into Micah, whose late wife was her best friend. She can tell he’s still lost in grief, and out of love for her friend, she resolves to help him find peace. What she and Micah find together, though, has the potential to be something more. Sloan fights the attraction, not only because of their history but because she’s always been second fiddle. To Micah, a solo act seems safer than a duet, but with Sloan, he develops a new appreciation for harmony. Music may be his forte, but can he find the words to convince her she’s his one and only? Related books: True North, Book 1 in the Hale Street spin-off series North Brothers, is the story of Sierra Lowell and Cole North. Other Hale Street stories by Amy Knupp include Last First Kiss and Heartstrings. Clayborne’s After Hours is a Hale Street duet set that includes Last First Kiss and Heartstrings.

Dick Hardesty is hired to investigate the mysterious death of a client’s lover. The police assume the death is drug related. In the course of his investigation Dick learns of eight similar deaths, all seemingly unrelated. The victims had nothing in common other than being gay, and all dying the same way. The police, to whom the deaths of “perverts” means very little, conclude that a serial killer is randomly killing gays, but Dick disagrees and believes that what tied the men together will lead to their killer.

Book Description
Concentrate. Focus. Never, ever get distracted by anything…or anyone. Farrington High School Junior, Kate Kellner, has her whole future planned and a list of high-priority goals aligned. This season, she’s going to lead the Fighting Falcons to their first ever Midlands Conference title, break all the school pitching records, and impress a boatload of college recruiters so she can pick where she wants to go after she graduates from high school. But then, one day in the middle of a training session, Grady Hughes walks into her multipurpose room. Grady and his family just moved to Farrington. Because his mom is a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force, he’s used to leaving one town for another, but it’s rotten luck that she got her orders to get up and go in the middle of his senior year. He decides to try out for the baseball team and that’s when he first encounters Kate Kellner. She’s strong, powerful, and unbelievably intense. From their very first meeting, he’s blown away by her drive and determination. He’s never known anyone like her who is simultaneously stable and well-adjusted but also daring and audacious. Just watching her fire one pitch after another at the wall is enough to capture Grady’s interest. Smitten, he sets out to make friends with Kate, but not everyone in her life is thrilled by the way she reciprocates his attentions.
Ty Masterson, Kate’s best friend since childhood and next-door neighbor, is less than pleased by Grady’s laid back, casual, and carefree attitude. And even Kate’s teammates speculate if having Grady as her friend is too much of a distraction. Will Kate be able to pull it altogether? Can she sacrifice a little of her self-discipline, in hopes of getting a whole lot in return?
