Observations of the Brightness and Polarization of the Outer Corona During the November 12, 1966, Total Eclipse of the Sun

Pages : 26
Book Description
Photographs of the solar corona from a camera flown at an altitude of 40,000 feet were obtained on November 12, 1966. The absolute brightness, polarization and the direction of polarization of the solar corona between 3.5 and 13 solar radii were determined from these photographs. A significant polarized component was found in this region, the structure of which can be closely correlated with features in the inner corona. Comparisons are made in the July 20, 1963 and May 30, 1965 eclipses and evidence is given for changes in brightness of the coronal light between these eclipses. (Author).

Literature 1970, Part 1
Author: Siegfried Böhme
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662009595
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 497
Book Description
Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts. which appears in semi-annual volumes, is devoted to the re cording, summarizing and indexing of astronomical publications throughout the world. It is prepared under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union (according to a resolution adopted at the 14th General Assembly in 1970). Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts aims to present a comprehensive documentation of literature in all fields of astronomy and astrophysics. Every effort will be made to ensure that the average time interval between the date of receipt of the original literature and publication of the abstracts will not exceed eight months. This time interval is near to that achieved by monthly abstracting journals, com pared to which our system of accumulating abstracts for about six months offers the advantage of greater convenience for the user. Volume 3 contains literature published in 1970 and received before August IS, 1970; some older lite rature which was received late and which is not recorded in earlier volumes is also included.

Planets, Stars and Nebulae Studied with Photopolarimetry
Author: Tom Gehrels
Publisher: University of Arizona Press
ISBN: 081653862X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 1152
Book Description
“The polarization study of celestial objects is a valuable part of optical astronomy, and the author has done exceptionally well in bringing together contributions treating all aspects of the polarimetry field. . . . The first section contains a fine introduction and an excellent and definitive history of the subject. . . . The volume is well illustrated. . . . Highly recommended.”—Choice “The high quality of this book is clearly due to strict editorial attention to each paper and the discussions. Gehrels’s book will surely stand for many years as the fundamental reference source for polarization studies in astronomy as well as in atmospheric physics.”—Journal of the Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers
