Radical Ionic Systems
Author: Anders Lund
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401137501
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 498
Book Description
It is now more than 20 years since the book "Radical Ions" edited by Kaiser and Kevan appeared. It contained aspects regarding generation, identification, spin density determination and reactivity of charged molecules with an odd number of electrons. New classes of reactive ion radicals have been detected and characterised since then, most notably cation radicals of saturated organic compounds. Trapping of electrons has been found to occur not only in frozen glasses but also in organic crystals. The structure and reactions of anion radicals of saturated compounds have been clarified during the last 20 years. We have asked leading experts in the field to write separate chapters about cation radicals, anion radicals and trapped electrons as well as more complex systems of biological or technological interest. More attention is paid to recent studies of the ions of saturated compounds than to the older and previously reviewed work on aromatic ions. In the case of trapped electrons full coverage is out of the question, and focus is on recent efforts to characterise the solvation structure in ordered and disordered systems.

General Aspects of the Chemistry of Radicals
Author: Zeev B. Alfassi
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 584
Book Description
General Aspects of the Chemistry of Radicals Edited by Z. B. Alfassi Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel Free radicals are used as reactive intermediates in a wide range of organic syntheses as well as playing an important role in biological systems and industrial processes. Free radical chemistry is a rapidly developing area, with applications not only in chemistry but also in processes related to the environment, biology, drug research and medicine. General Aspects of the Chemistry of Radicals is an introductory book, discussing methods of formation and detection of free radicals, the rate of their reactions and their thermochemistry. The book closely examines the reactivity of free radical reactions, rate constants and temperature dependence, important in predicting the behaviour of yet unstudied systems and validating reaction mechanisms. General Aspects of the Chemistry of Radicals is written for researchers working in environmental and material sciences, organic, inorganic and physical organic chemistry. It will also be of interest to biochemists and molecular biologists working with the effects of free radicals on living systems.

Chemistry and Physics of Matrix-isolated Species
Author: Lester Andrews
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 448
Book Description
Matrix-isolation spectroscopy, as a technique for studying unstable species, has had tremendous lasting powers. Since 1954, matrix-isolation has been able to assimilate new technology rather than being replaced by it. The matrix-isolation technique for producing and trapping new chemical species has been applied to an ever increasing range of chemical and physical problems since its inception. The last 12 years have seen a substantial number of new developments and applications of the matrix technique. The chapters in this book describe many of the contributions of matrix-isolation spectroscopy to chemistry and physics in the last decade, and as such predict the continued evolution of this technique over the next decade. Experimental techniques are generally closely related to the development of new apparatus, and each chapter has a section describing innovations in instrumentation such as the closed-cycle cryogenic cooler that has revolutionized the technique. In addition, each chapter describes many of the specialized methods used to prepare, trap and study particular new subject species. The volume will be an indispensable reference source for graduate students and other scientists new to this field, as well as chemists and physicists already involved in applied spectroscopy.
