Book Description
This fascinating "sketchbook" of Florida history and culture focuses on the rural Red Hills of north Florida. Comprised of what is now Madison, Jefferson, and Leon counties, this region is home to a rich heritage that includes prehistoric people and megafauna, Native Americans, Spanish settlers, British soldiers, and Southern Plantations dependent upon the work of enslaved people. Celt and African traditions became incorporated into the Southern folklore of the area, including colorful traditions and ghost stories. Rose Knox grew up listening to stories about the Red Hills of northern Florida. In her "own backyard," an old, dilapidated antebellum mansion and one of the oldest pioneer cemeteries in the state of Florida were pivotal places of intrigue during her childhood. The Florida Historical Society Press has published her regional books Canoeing and Camping on the Historic Suwannee River: A Paddler's Guide and Old Tales of the Forgotten South in a Georgia-Florida Swamp: Paddling Okefenokee. Both works were compiled in collaboration with Graham Schorb, her husband, an outdoor guide. Her profile pieces have been featured in Florida Wildlife Magazine and in Florida newspapers. Rose is a teacher at a rural college in the Red Hills and is a native Floridian. Graham Schorb is also a native Floridian, and his many contributions have helped make this history book a reality. He assisted in searching out directions, finding historical locations, and working with his wife, Rose, on this, their third historical compilation. A few of the places in northern Florida he sought out and helped navigate to were: places of interest on the Aucilla and Suwannee Rivers; ancient ceremonial mounds; former Spanish mission sites and cemeteries; pioneer cemeteries; and antebellum mansion locations of the Red Hills.

Book Description
The paranormal investigator and author of Phantoms of Old Louisville explores haunted historic mansions, churches, and more. The Louisville, Kentucky, neighborhood known as Old Louisville is one of the country’s largest National Preservation Districts and the largest Victorian-era neighborhood in the country. Beneath the balconies and terraces of the district's Gothic, Queen Anne, and Beaux Arts mansions, current residents trade stories about the strange and unexplained phenomena they encounter in their historic homes. When David Dominé moved into one of these houses, he dismissed local rumors of a resident poltergeist named Lucy. But soon, disembodied footsteps and mysterious odors changed his mind. Now Dominé is one of Louisville’s best-known investigators of paranormal phenomena. In Haunts of Old Louisville, Dominé takes readers inside the opulent Ferguson Mansion—where a phantom tosses books off shelves—and introduces them to the spectral stable hand who lurks around Campion House. He also examines historic tales pulled out of the headlines and even explores the claim that a winged demon haunts the ornate towers of Walnut Street Baptist Church.

Book Description
The Nickerson Snead House has a 182 years worth of history. However, the original log portion of the house has a history older than the birth of our nation, being built in the mid 1700s. More than likely Native Americans spent time on this property while traveling the path that is now Route 11 long before settlers came to America. The property housed a fort during the Revolutionary War and the French and Indian War. The house we see today was used as a field hospital during the Civil War when Dr. Nickerson Snead lived there. Later the Mason family would own the property from the late 1880s until the late 1980s. In 2004 the Caudills would find themselves the owners of the grand old Antebellum. The history of the property has certainly contributed to the hauntings of the house. Follow the journey of the property's history and discover the reasons behind the hauntings. Get a glimpse inside the house and see some photos of ghosts in The History & The Hauntings of The Nickerson Snead House.
