Book Description
In recent years, with global economic development and population growth, environmental issues have become increasingly prominent. Climate change and energy crisis have become global problems that restrict human development, and so need to be solved urgently. As a comprehensive economic development model, the low-carbon economy can greatly reduce energy and resource consumption, mitigate and adapt to climate change, promote economic development, and thus achieve the goal of sustainable development. Therefore, exploring efficient paths toward sustainable development through carbon reduction is an urgent and challenging research topic currently. This Research Topic aims to conduct scientific research and exchange from the perspectives of clarifying the drivers behind carbon reduction, investigating the synergistic mechanism between the low-carbon economy and sustainable development, and then exploring the pathways to low-carbon development. Through comprehensive research and comparative analysis of the relationship between low-carbon economy and sustainable development, we will verify the feasibility of innovations and updates of carbon reduction applications for sustainable development; provide scientific strategies in terms of low-carbon economy for sustainable development; design technical routes and propose corresponding policy recommendations.

Book Description
Asia must be at the center of the global fight against climate change. It is the world’s most populous region, with high economic growth, a rising share of global greenhouse gas emissions, and the most vulnerability to climate risks. Its current resource- and emission-intensive growth pattern is not sustainable. This study recognizes low-carbon green growth as an imperative—not an option—for developing Asia. Asia has already started to move toward low-carbon green growth. Many emerging economies have started to use sustainable development to bring competitiveness to their industries and to serve growing green technology markets. The aim of this study is to share the experiences of emerging Asian economies and the lessons learned. The book assesses the low-carbon and green policies and practices taken by Asian countries, identifies gaps, and examines new opportunities for low-carbon green growth.

Book Description
The Federal Government of Nigeria has adopted an ambitious strategy to make Nigeria the world’s 20th largest economy by 2020. Sustaining such a pace of growth will entail rapid expansion of the level of activity in key carbon-emitting sectors, such as power, oil and gas, agriculture and transport. In the absence of policies to accompany economic growth with a reduced carbon foot-print, emissions of greenhouse gases could more than double in the next two decades. This study finds that there are several options for Nigeria to achieve the development objectives of vision 20:2020 and beyond, but stabilizing emissions at 2010 levels, and with domestic benefits in the order of 2 percent of GDP. These benefits include cheaper and more diversified electricity sources; more efficient operation of the oil and gas industry; more productive and climate –resilient agriculture; and better transport services, resulting in fuel economies, better air quality, and reduced congestion. The study outlines several actions that the Federal Government could undertake to facilitate the transition towards a low carbon economy, including enhanced governance for climate action, integration of climate consideration in the Agriculture Transformation Agenda, promotion of energy efficiency programs, scale-up of low carbon technologies in power generation (such as renewables an combined cycle gas turbines), and enhance vehicle fuel efficiency.

Book Description
Since the middle of the last century, rapid population growth and urbanization have led to the encroachment of a large number of natural spaces, resulting in a series of ecological security issues such as environmental pollution, resource depletion and habitat destruction, which have severely challenged global sustainable development. Urban ecological security is an important barrier to urban residents' production and life, the foundation and core of national or regional ecological security, and it is of great significance to promote green development and harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. With global warming, frequent natural disasters and other multifactorial threats, the issue of ecological security in cities as centers of the settlement have become a focus of international attention. However, cities are complex systems with social, economic and natural conditions coupled with each other. Under the overlapping of many factors, the basic problems such as the mechanism of urban development on ecological security have not been fully explained, and there is also a lack of quantitative assessment methods corresponding to urban ecological conditions, let alone simulation and prediction.

Book Description
We provide a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and GDP in China using both aggregate and provincial data. The Kuznets elasticity is about 0.6 for China, higher than that in advanced countries but below that of major emerging markets. The elasticity is somewhat lower for consumption-based emissions than for production-based emissions, providing mild evidence consistent with the “pollution haven” hypothesis. The Kuznets elasticity is much lower for the last three decades than for the three previous decades, suggesting a longer-term trend toward decoupling as China has become richer. Further evidence of this comes from provincial data: richer provinces tend to have smaller Kuznets elasticities than poorer ones. In addition to the trend relationship, we find that the Environmental Okun's Law holds in China.
