Then one morning random letters are circled on her cereal box, letters which spell a name. Teagan doesn't know what to make of it, but tracks down that boy—only to witness him commit suicide. Teagan is devastated. But when she meets Edge, a friend of the dead boy, at least someone seems to understand how she feels. Except she sees another name...and another. And a pattern forms. Together, Teagan and Edge set out to find those people, to try to save them from their fate. With a renewed purpose, Tegan is determined to save lives that summer, just like her father used to. The Reckonings
Author: Lacy M. Johnson
Publisher: Scribner
ISBN: 1501159011
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 352
Book Description
“Unflinching and honest…both timely and timeless” (Houston Chronicle), this extraordinary collection of essays by the award-winning writer of The Other Side—rooted in her own experience with sexual assault—pursues questions that strike at the heart of our national conversation about the justness of society. In 2014, Lacy Johnson was giving a reading from The Other Side, her “instant classic” (Kirkus Reviews) memoir of kidnapping and rape, when a woman asked her what she would like to happen to her rapist. This collection “attempts to parcel out several knotted problems and suggests forms of meaningful justice” (Booklist, starred review). Drawing from philosophy, art, literature, mythology, anthropology, film, and her own experience of violence, Johnson considers how our ideas about justice might be expanded beyond vengeance and retribution to include acts of compassion, patience, mercy, and grace. “The Reckonings is not a book about changing the world. It’s philosophy in disguise, equal parts memoir, criticism, and ethics…The twelve essays deserve great consideration, while you read it and long after” (NPR). From “Speak Truth to Power,” about the condition of not being believed about rape and assault; to “Goliath,” about the ways evil is used as a form of social control; to “The Fallout,” about ecological and generational violence, Johnson creates masterful, elaborate, gorgeously written essays that speak incisively about our current era. She grapples with justice and retribution, truth and fairness, and sexual assault and workplace harassment, as well as the broadest societal wrongs: the BP Oil Spill, government malfeasance, police killings. The Reckonings is a powerful and necessary work, ambitious in its scope, which “challenges our culture’s expectations of justice and expose the limits of vengeance and mercy” (Ms. Magazine).

Book Description
What if everything that you thought of as being real wasnt? Could you live knowing that your life isnt what youve expected it should be like? Well, imagine a world in which all that is so. The world of Granod is a very different place from what it once was. The Great Blue Dragon created the world about two thousand years ago, where animals of any kind could roam freely among humans, elves, and other races. However, when the Dragon Lord was tricked and taken from the ideal place he has called home, all rights and rules that had been associated with freedom instantly vanished. Now, women were the rulers, and men were nothing but slaves. It was a life style that was known to all until David, a seventeen-year-old slave, decided that wasnt the life he could stand anymore. Upon packing whatever belongings he had, including his pet red dragon, David fled from everything he knew was unjust. Then, meeting a woman named Julia, who appeared nothing like any other woman David had ever known, it was decided that the only way to get him out of danger was to partake in the adventure that was called upon by the mayor. The mayor proclaimed, Find the eight dragon jewels that will bring our Lord back to this world and receive money and fame. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. Through finding clues along the way, discovering a love that would not fade, and meeting new people, including Julias cousin, Kat, weapon smith, Raven, Kats friend, John, a mysterious witch, Tashe, and many more, it is hard to differentiate who can be trusted to come along on this quest. However, they, for now, must learn to cooperate if the jewels, as well as mans freedom, have any chance of being rediscovered.
