Book Description
Lloyd's Register has published the Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Ships, to which all Lloyd's Register classed ships must conform, since 1834. Between 1834 and 1870 the Rules were bound within the Lloyd's Register of Ships. Since 1870 they have been published separately. Today, the Lloyd's Register Rules and Regulations are still recognised as one of the most comprehensive and respected sets of standards in the maritime industry. They are still regularly updated to reflect the advances in technology and changes in regulatory requirements, and still function as a trusted companion to surveyors, shipowners, shipyards and regulatory bodies around the world.

Book Description
The Lloyd’s Register Technical Association (LRTA) was established in 1920 with the primary objective of sharing technical expertise and knowledge within Lloyd’s Register. Publications have consistently been released on a yearly basis, with a brief interruption between 1938 and 1946. These publications serve as a key reference point for best practices and were initially reserved for internal use to maximise LR’s competitive advantage. Today, the LRTA takes a fresh approach, focusing on collaboration by combining professional expertise from across LRF & Group to ensure a frequent output of fresh perspectives and relevant content. The LRTA has evolved into a Group-wide initiative that identifies, captures, and shares knowledge spanning various business streams and functions. To support this modern approach, the LRTA has adopted a new structure featuring representatives and senior governance across the business streams and the LR Foundation. The Lloyd's Register Technical Association Papers should be seen as historical documents representing earlier viewpoints and are not reflective of current thinking and perspectives by the current LR Technical Association. The Lloyd's Register Staff Association (LRSA) changed its name to the Lloyd's Register Technical Association (LRTA) in 1973.

Book Description
The Report provides comprehensive toughness criteria for welded ship hulls that can be used for steels of all strength levels. Because of the fact that stress concentrations are always present in large complex welded structures and therefore high stresses as well as discontinuities or flaws will be present in welded ship hulls, primary emphasis in the proposed fracture-control guidelines is placed on the use of steels with moderate levels of notch-toughness and on the use of properly designed crack arresters. In general, concepts of fracture mechanics are used to develop the material toughness level that is required for fail-safe operation of welded ship hulls.
