Cette étude porte sur l’apprentissage de la lecture en français (langue étrangère) par des enfants croates de 9 à 11 ans. Ce travail, envisagé sous l’angle de la didactique cognitive des langues, se compose de trois parties. La première est consacrée à une présentation théorique des données linguistiques, psycholinguistiques et didactiques pertinentes dans le cadre de cette recherche. En premier lieu sont envisagées les correspondances phonologiques et orthographiques en croate et en français. Ensuite, nous discutons de la pertinence de différents modèles psycholinguistiques de la lecture, avant d’établir le concept de la mémoire de travail au sein des apprentissages. Le deuxième volet consiste en une étude expérimentale s’efforçant de mettre en relief l’influence de la boucle phonologique dans l’activité de répétition et de lecture à haute voix en ciblant des phonèmes présentant des difficultés pour les croatophones. La procédure adoptée obéit aux critères des expériences relevant de la psycholinguistique. La troisième partie envisage quelques perspectives didactiques à partir des résultats obtenus et met en lumière qu’il importe de reconsidérer le rôle et les différents statuts de l’écrit dans l’accès à la littératie en langue étrangère.

This book is prepared in honor of Prof. Juanita War. Prof. Juanita War, born in February 1948, in Shillong, Meghalaya, is currently teaching in the Department of Linguistics, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong. She finished her M.A. in English (1969) from Guahati University, M.A in Linguistics (1976), and was awarded the Shri Uggersain Gold Medal from Delhi University. On being awarded the Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship in September 1980, she pursued her doctoral degree in the Department of Applied Linguistics, University of Edinburgh, Scotland under the supervision of Prof. S. Pit Corder. Previously in the Department of English, NEHU (1976 – 1989), she joined the Department of Linguistics in June 1989, then only a research department in the Kohima Campus of NEHU. On Prof. War’s initiative, the department became a full-fledged teaching and research department since 1996 in Shillong. Though her area of research is Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition, especially Inter-language Studies she has taught ELT courses, Psycholinguistics, Language Education, Morphology, Mon-Khmer and Tibeto-Burman Linguistics and guided. She headed the Department of Linguistics, NEHU, for almost 15 years. She has published numerous articles in Linguistics, ELT and other disciplines, especially those related to the Khasi community to which she belongs.
