Book Description
Many results, both from semi group theory itself and from the applied sciences, are phrased in discipline-specific languages and hence are hardly known to a broader community. This volume contains a selection of lectures presented at a conference that was organised as a forum for all mathematicians using semi group theory to learn what is happening outside their own field of research. The collection will help to establish a number of new links between various sub-disciplines of semigroup theory, stochastic processes, differential equations and the applied fields. The theory of semigroups of operators is a well-developed branch of functional analysis. Its foundations were laid at the beginning of the 20th century, while the fundamental generation theorem of Hille and Yosida dates back to the forties. The theory was, from the very beginning, designed as a universal language for partial differential equations and stochastic processes, but at the same time it started to live as an independent branch of operator theory. Nowadays, it still has the same distinctive flavour: it develops rapidly by posing new ‘internal’ questions and in answering them, discovering new methods that can be used in applications. On the other hand, it is influenced by questions from PDEs and stochastic processes as well as from applied sciences such as mathematical biology and optimal control, and thus it continually gathers a new momentum. Researchers and postgraduate students working in operator theory, partial differential equations, probability and stochastic processes, analytical methods in biology and other natural sciences, optimization and optimal control will find this volume useful.

Book Description
The authors consider dynamic types of inverse problems in which the additional information is given by the trace of the direct problem on a (usually time-like) surface of the domain. They discuss theoretical and numerical background of the finite-difference scheme inversion, the linearization method, the method of Gel'fand-Levitan-Krein, the boundary control method, and the projection method and prove theorems of convergence, conditional stability, and other properties of the mentioned methods.

Book Description
This book deals with one of the key problems in applied mathematics, namely the investigation into and providing for solution stability in solving equations with due allowance for inaccuracies in set initial data, parameters and coefficients of a mathematical model for an object under study, instrumental function, initial conditions, etc., and also with allowance for miscalculations, including roundoff errors. Until recently, all problems in mathematics, physics and engineering were divided into two classes: well-posed problems and ill-posed problems. The authors introduce a third class of problems: intermediate ones, which are problems that change their property of being well- or ill-posed on equivalent transformations of governing equations, and also problems that display the property of being either well- or ill-posed depending on the type of the functional space used. The book is divided into two parts: Part one deals with general properties of all three classes of mathematical, physical and engineering problems with approaches to solve them; Part two deals with several stable models for solving inverse ill-posed problems, illustrated with numerical examples.

Book Description
This monograph extends well-known facts to new classes of problems and works out novel approaches to the solution of these problems. It is devoted to the questions of ill-posed boundary-value problems for systems of various types of the first-order differential equations with constant coefficients and the methods for their solution.

Book Description
This book discusses almost periodic and almost automorphic solutions to abstract integro-differential Volterra equations that are degenerate in time, and in particular equations whose solutions are governed by (degenerate) solution operator families with removable singularities at zero. It particularly covers abstract fractional equations and inclusions with multivalued linear operators as well as abstract fractional semilinear Cauchy problems.

Book Description
This volume provides a comprehensive introduction to the modern theory of differential-operator and kinetic models including Vlasov-Maxwell, Fredholm, Lyapunov-Schmidt branching equations to name a few. This book will bridge the gap in the considerable body of existing academic literature on the analytical methods used in studies of complex behavior of differential-operator equations and kinetic models. This monograph will be of interest to mathematicians, physicists and engineers interested in the theory of such non-standard systems.

Book Description
The monograph is devoted to the study of initial-boundary-value problems for multi-dimensional Sobolev-type equations over bounded domains. The authors consider both specific initial-boundary-value problems and abstract Cauchy problems for first-order (in the time variable) differential equations with nonlinear operator coefficients with respect to spatial variables. The main aim of the monograph is to obtain sufficient conditions for global (in time) solvability, to obtain sufficient conditions for blow-up of solutions at finite time, and to derive upper and lower estimates for the blow-up time. The abstract results apply to a large variety of problems. Thus, the well-known Benjamin-Bona-Mahony-Burgers equation and Rosenau-Burgers equations with sources and many other physical problems are considered as examples. Moreover, the method proposed for studying blow-up phenomena for nonlinear Sobolev-type equations is applied to equations which play an important role in physics. For instance, several examples describe different electrical breakdown mechanisms in crystal semiconductors, as well as the breakdown in the presence of sources of free charges in a self-consistent electric field. The monograph contains a vast list of references (440 items) and gives an overall view of the contemporary state-of-the-art of the mathematical modeling of various important problems arising in physics. Since the list of references contains many papers which have been published previously only in Russian research journals, it may also serve as a guide to the Russian literature.
