Book Description
The primary goal in this research is to develop a comprehensive theory of linear transport/kinetic theory in a stochastic mixture of solids and immiscible fluids. The statistics considered correspond to N-state discrete random variables for the interaction coefficients and sources, with N denoting the number of components of the mixture. The mixing statistics studied are Markovian as well as more general statistics, such as renewal processes. A further goal of this work is to demonstrate the applicability of the formalism to real world engineering problems. This three year program was initiated June 15, 1993 and has been underway nine months. Many significant results have been obtained, both in the formalism development and in representative applications. These results are summarized by listing the archival publications resulting from this grant, including the abstracts taken directly from the papers.

Book Description
The book is suitable for a lecture course on the theory of Brownian motion, being based on final year undergraduate lectures given at Trinity College, Dublin. Topics that are discussed include: white noise; the Chapman-Kolmogorov equation — Kramers-Moyal expansion; the Langevin equation; the Fokker-Planck equation; Brownian motion of a free particle; spectral density and the Wiener-Khintchin theorem — Brownian motion in a potential application to the Josephson effect, ring laser gyro; Brownian motion in two dimensions; harmonic oscillators; itinerant oscillators; linear response theory; rotational Brownian motion; application to loss processes in dielectric and ferrofluids; superparamagnetism and nonlinear relaxation processes. As the first elementary book on the Langevin equation approach to Brownian motion, this volume attempts to fill in all the missing details which students find particularly hard to comprehend from the fundamental papers contained in the Dover reprint — Selected Papers on Noise and Stochastic Processes, ed. N Wax (1954) — together with modern applications particularly to relaxation in ferrofluids and polar dielectrics.

Book Description
Accelerated Aging: Photochemical and Thermal Aspects represents the culmination of more than 40 years of research by noted scientist Robert L. Feller. The book focuses on the long-term performance of materials such as wool, dyes, and organic compounds; their resistance to change when exposed to environmental factors such as oxygen, ozone, moisture, heat, and light; and their physical durability with handling and use over time. Processes of deterioration are discussed based on speeded-up laboratory studies designed to clarify the chemical reactions involved and their physical consequences.

Book Description
Combustion, Flames, and Explosions of Gases, Second Edition focuses on the processes, methodologies, and reactions involved in combustion phenomena. The publication first offers information on theoretical foundations, reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, and reaction between carbon monoxide and oxygen. Discussions focus on the fundamentals of reaction kinetics, elementary and complex reactions in gases, thermal reaction, and combined hydrogen-carbon monoxide-oxygen reaction. The text then elaborates on the reaction between hydrocarbons and oxygen and combustion waves in laminar flow. The manuscript tackles combustion waves in turbulent flow and air entrainment and burning of jets of fuel gases. Topics include effect of turbulence spectrum and turbulent wrinkling on combustion wave propagation; ignition of high-velocity streams by hot solid bodies; burners with primary air entrainment; and description of jet flames. The book then takes a look at detonation waves in gases; emission spectra, ionization, and electric-field effects in flames; and methods of flame photography and pressure recording. The publication is a valuable reference for readers interested in combustion phenomena.
