Anna later leaves the plantation for Baltimore where she becomes involved in politics, writing, and practising law. When the Civil War breaks out, she becomes an advisor to President Lincoln and also wrote pamphlets criticizing slavery. Lincoln sent her to St. Louis where she gathered the information for her strategic plan in the Tennessee Campaign.
