Book Description
I started my book with introducing my grandparents and parents, and continued with anecdotes from my childhood. I remember the depression, people were very poor, as no work was available. I saw ex-soldiers, who had lost limbs in the war, begging in the street. Father applied for a new job, he was one of the lucky ones who could earn money to keep us comfortable. We moved to Dueneberg near Hamburg in 1929. I started school that year at the age of six. My brother Dieter was born 1931. Hitler was elected into power in January 1933. Immediate political and economical changes took place At the age of nearly 15, I went to a Home Economic Boarding School in the Harz Mountains until 1938. The following year, summer 1939 we moved to Leipzig. Father had applied for an even better paid job. War started in September 1939. Every young person had to do one year's unpaid service (only pocket money) working for families with children or on farms. No-one could start a job before doing this. I was lucky and had only 6 months left to do after leaving the boarding school, as we had a children's holiday home attached to the school and worked there on occasions. In my book are many anecdotes from before, during and after the war. In 1940 I started work as a telex operator in the Leipzig Telegraph Office and in November 1944 I started to work for Heinkel's Aeroplane's factory, again doing telex work. Mother thought I should better myself with more pay and having my own office. I wished that I had never left the Post Office. It became a nightmare. I met slave workers from Auschwitz, sent letters for them to their home towns. I had been watched by the Gestapo for a while. Everyone was always under suspicion. A letter from the Poles had been found in my valet and it was on 29.January 1945 that I was arrested and was taken by an SS man by train to a Labour Camp. There everyone, 400 girls from all over Europe, were kept, verbically abused, beaten and left to die without any medicines. I survived after being very ill with high fever and was released on 4 April 1945 looking like a skeleton. Father had to fight against the approaching Americans. From 400 men only 4 survived. Germany was divided and we had to live under Russian occupation and were starving. Father was taken by the Russians to the vicinity of Moscow, with others, where they were indoctrinated with Communism. I escaped to West-Germany in summer 1947 and had to go to an assembly camp and worked then for British Service families. Worked as a nanny and loved it. I met a British Service man, Patrick, he came from Bristol. In October 1953 we were married in Hengrove-Bristol. Read more at www.lucarinfo.com/giselacoo.

Book Description
Dear Friend, May I share a story that is very dear to my heart? It's a story of hillbillies and simple folk, net casters and tax collectors. A story of a movement that exploded like a just-opened fire hydrant out of Jerusalem and spilled into the ends of the earth: into the streets of Paris, the districts of Rome, and the ports of Athens, Istanbul, Shanghai, and Buenos Aires. A story so mighty, controversial, head spinning, and life changing that two millennia later we wonder: Might it happen again? Heaven knows we hope so. These are devastating times: 1.75 billions people are desperately poor; one billion are hungry. Lonely hearts indwell our neighborhoods and attend our schools. In the midst of it all, here we stand: you, me, and our one-of-a-kind lives. We are given a choice ... an opportunity to make a big difference during a difficult time. What if we did? What if we rocked the world with hope? Worth a try, don't you think? - Max Lucado One hundred percent of the author's royalties from Outlive Your Life products will benefit children and families through World Vision and other ministries of faith-based compassion.

Book Description
The impact of humanity on the earth overshoots the earth’s bio-capacity to supply humanity’s needs, meaning that people are living off earth’s capital rather than its income. However, not all countries are equal and this book explores why apparently similar patterns of daily living can lead to larger and smaller environmental impacts. The contributors describe daily life in many different places in the world and then calculate the environmental impact of these ways of living from the perspective of ecological and carbon footprints. This leads to comparison and discussion of what living within the limits of the planet might mean. Current footprints for countries are derived from national statistics and these hide the variety of impacts made by individual people and the choices they make in their daily lives. This book takes a ‘bottom-up’ approach by calculating the footprints of daily living. The purpose is to show that small changes in behaviour now could avoid some very challenging problems in the future. Offering a global perspective on the question of sustainable living, this book will be of great interest to anyone with a concern for the future, as well as students and researchers in environmental studies, human geography and development studies.

Book Description
This book surveys current archaeological and historical thinking about the dimly understood characteristics of daily life in Great Britain during the fifth and sixth centuries. Arthurian legends are immensely popular and well known despite the lack of reliable documentation about this time period in Britain. As a result, historians depend upon archaeologists to accurately describe life during these two centuries of turmoil when Britons suffered displacement by Germanic immigrants. Daily Life in Arthurian Britain examines cultural change in Britain through the fifth and sixth centuries—anachronistically known as The Dark Ages—with a focus on the fate of Romano-British culture, demographic change in the northern and western border lands, and the impact of the Germanic immigrants later known as the Anglo-Saxons. The book coalesces many threads of current knowledge and opinion from leading historians and archaeologists, describing household composition, rural and urban organization, food production, architecture, fashion, trades and occupations, social classes, education, political organization, warfare, and religion in Arthurian times. The few available documentary sources are analyzed for the cultural and historical value of their information.

Book Description
Creativity is the theme connecting the many chapters of the author's life journey, with over 300 drawings, paintings and photographs illustrating the story. Inspired by her daughter's request to introduce her to the artist she was before becoming a mother, this intimate memoir includes her growing up in a leftist immigrant Jewish family in the fifties, her education and training as an artist, studies in Germany in 1958, and a year of drawing and painting in Europe in 1962. The cultural climate of the sixties significantly changed the course of her life and work. After the birth of her daughter, she began a spiritual practice that included time in India. She eventually embraced Buddhist Vipassana meditation. Included is her training as an art and body therapist and the transition into becoming a psychotherapist. She maintains a private practice as a transpersonal/somatic psychotherapist and group therapist in Santa Rosa, California
