Book Description
In 1859, Lewis Case Laugenour invested his wealth, which he acquired during the California Gold Rush, into establishing a town called Lewisville in Forsyth County. In the late 1700s, the surrounding area was visited by frontiersmen, Colonial soldiers, and pioneers journeying down the Great Philadelphia Wagon Road. Travelers often stopped at Shallow Ford on the Yadkin River to camp until the river was safe to cross with wagons, horses, and livestock on their way to a new home, to war, or to trade in nearby Moravian settlements. Over time, this area of rolling hills, rich bottomland, streams, and abundant wildlife was settled. By the late 1800s, Lewisville became a bustling stopover for travelers who utilized campgrounds, the tavern, and the trading post to rest for the journey on to Winston and Salem. Today, in the emerging Yadkin Valley wine region, Lewisville is a community-oriented village surrounding a town square with plentiful sidewalks, parks, churches, small businesses, schools, and a public library.

Book Description
Originally known as Holford's Prairie, Lewisville's name is not the only thing that has changed about this town in its long history. Settlers sponsored by the Peters Colony Company founded the small community in the 1840s. In the ensuing years, the settlement, renamed to Lewisville by Basdeal W. Lewis in 1856, consistently grew and prospered until its incorporation in 1925. Cotton farming and ginning, the arrival of the Dallas and Wichita Railroad in 1881, the expansion of Lake Dallas into Lake Lewisville in 1954, and the opening of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in 1974 ensured that Lewisville became an important commercial center in booming North Texas. Throughout its phenomenal growth, however, Lewisville still retained the charm and bonds of its farm-centered past. Today Lewisville boasts the largest population and school district in Denton County and serves as a suburb for the bustling Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

Book Description
Martha Grimm has a sorrowful secret, and her daughter Mary Ann is the only other person in New Zealand who knows it. Growing up dirt-poor in Willoughby, Warwickshire, in 1814, Martha dared to imagine a different life. Now she is a wealthy and respectable Wellington settler half a world away. But the cost has been high. Martha cannot speak of the past nor the people she left behind. Lewisville is a novel based on true events. It is a story of one woman's ambition, of escape and reinvention, and the bittersweet consequences of achieving one's dreams. You must promise me, if this man approaches you, you will have nothing to do with him. Tell him you have no idea what he is talking about; faint to the floor if you must. But don't let him say anything that could unravel our lives here. Promise me!
