Cette revue de littérature cherche à répondre à la question suivante : "quel accompagnement au quotidien l'infirmière peut-elle offrir à la personne âgée en EMS, en vue de maintenir ou d'améliorer sa qualité de vie ? "Il s'agit, au travers de ce travail, de réfléchir au rôle infirmier face aux différents besoins quotidiens de la personne âgée, afin de lui garantir un certain bien-être dans cette étape de vie, souvent marquée par de nombreuses pertes. Face au nombre croissant de personnes âgées, ainsi qu'au prolongement de l'espérance de vie, les aînés sont toujours plus nombreux à requérir des soins de longue durée, nécessitant souvent un placement en maison de retraite. C'est entre autre en raison de cette évolution, mais aussi de notre intérêt pour cette population, que nous avons réalisé ce travail. Il ressort des différentes lectures que la population âgée éprouve souvent, lorsqu'elle vit en EMS, une perte du sentiment d'identité, la crainte du déficit du lien social, et qu'elle souhaite pouvoir bénéficier de soins de qualité, prodigués par des personnes compétentes.Les perspectives de prise en soin, soit d'accompagnement infirmier quotidien, abordées dans ce travail, en l'occurrence la réminiscence et l'empowerment, permettent de s'intéresser à la personne en qualité d'individu unique, afin de pouvoir lui offrir une qualité de vie qui corresponde autant que possible à la définition qu'elle s'en fait. Si ce travail offre des pistes de réflexion, il n'en reste pas moins que les propositions nécessitent d'être mises en pratique et évaluées. De plus, l'étendue du sujet ouvre de vastes possibilités de recherche, si l'on souhaite s'intéresser de plus près à quelques éléments qui constituent la qualité de vie telle que nous la traitons ici. Pour ne citer que quelques exemples, nous pourrions évoquer le rôle infirmier dans le maintien du lien social, le rôle infirmier et la relation avec les pairs ou encore le rôle infirmier face à l'état d'esprit de la personne âgée.

In this pithy two-part essay, Marshall Sahlins reinvigorates the debates on what constitutes kinship, building on some of the best scholarship in the field to produce an original outlook on the deepest bond humans can have. Covering thinkers from Aristotle and Lévy- Bruhl to Émile Durkheim and David Schneider, and communities from the Maori and the English to the Korowai of New Guinea, he draws on a breadth of theory and a range of ethnographic examples to form an acute definition of kinship, what he calls the “mutuality of being.” Kinfolk are persons who are parts of one another to the extent that what happens to one is felt by the other. Meaningfully and emotionally, relatives live each other’s lives and die each other’s deaths. In the second part of his essay, Sahlins shows that mutuality of being is a symbolic notion of belonging, not a biological connection by “blood.” Quite apart from relations of birth, people may become kin in ways ranging from sharing the same name or the same food to helping each other survive the perils of the high seas. In a groundbreaking argument, he demonstrates that even where kinship is reckoned from births, it is because the wider kindred or the clan ancestors are already involved in procreation, so that the notion of birth is meaningfully dependent on kinship rather than kinship on birth. By formulating this reversal, Sahlins identifies what kinship truly is: not nature, but culture.
