Este libro nació a partir de la preocupación que como educadores tenemos sobre los magros resultados en los ingresos a la Universidad, especialmente en el desarrollo de la comprensión y producción de textos, competencias necesarias para abordar una carrera de nivel superior. Observamos que después de doce años de escolaridad la escuela no logra desarrollar estas habilidades. Por eso, estamos convencidos que la verdadera democratización de la enseñanza consiste en apoyar y mejorar las estrategias metodológicas en la lectura y escritura de textos, como herramientas del conocimiento y desarrollo de la subjetividad. Para este logro debemos trabajar en conjunto en forma interdisciplinaria y transversal ya que, los esfuerzos aislados no han dado resultados. Saber expresarse en forma oral, leer y escribir no es una responsabilidad sólo del área de Lengua, sino que, además del desarrollo de conocimientos lingüístico discursivos, existen otros saberes que son de carácter disciplinar. La elaboración y aplicación de proyectos institucionales favorece el desempeño de los alumnos en el conocimiento de saberes disciplinares, de sí mismos, y de sus propias potencialidades.
