Book Description
Excerpt from The Latin School Register, 1925, Vol. 44 But it seems that a certain member of the royal council had an uncontrollable temper, which fault proved his undoing. For, one day, as the emperor was holding a meeting Of his councillors, this tempestuous person, aroused by the stubbornness of one of his colleagues, seized what came first in hand, and hurled it maliciously at the head of the other. Prompted by lthe instinct Of self-preservation, the man thus as sailed dodged effectually, and the pearls - for such they were - soared out of the win dow, and landed in a nearby depository for waste. Book Description
Excerpt from Latin School Register, Vol. 23: November, 1903 We won our second league game on Tues day, November 17, by defeating Cambridge Latin School at Charles River Park. Although it was cold and wet, a good crowd of Latin School fellows turned out. The spirit was fine and it is indeed an encouraging thing to notice an increasing tendency towards practical loy alty among the boys of the school. The cheer ing was well organized and heartily given, and several members of the team have assured us that the benefit they derive from the realization that they are heartily supported is great. Book Description
Excerpt from Latin School Register, Vol. 39: May, 1920 The anxiety of the trim captain who marched at the head of the column had been increased by the news from the consul at Ramada's capital, that rebels were reported near the mines, and he consequently set out straight along the white ribbon of highroad which led to Vyerdos. The company, 120 men strong, swung silently out behind him, every one engaged only in holding the fast, four-mile-ah-hour pace which their lead er set. The road wound in and out among banana plantations and other tropical trees, here swinging out among the trees, now running close to the rail road. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latin School Register, Vol. 44: October, 1924 If the Register were printed without any cover design, without any cartoons, any department headings, etc., and was all print for thirty pages, the seventy-five cents which each of you give as a subscription would be enough to pay for six or possibly seven issues of it. However, you would not like that kind of a paper. For this reason there are department heads, cartoons, etc., to brighten up the paper, to make it interesting for you to read. However, department heads and cartoons bring engravers' bills, so that after five issues have been printed all the subscription money is gone. The rest of the money we must get from advertisements. Book Description
Excerpt from Latin School Register, Vol. 44: May 1925 The Groton game on April 22 was a hard one to lose. Owens, who pitched the first three innings, went well for two innings, but was withdrawn in the third and replaced by Barrish after three runs had scored. It was the first time that he has ever attempted the role of pitcher and although he was hit freely in the third, he should prove a good pitcher when he has more experience. Latin School scored thrice in the first inning, but Groton went ahead in the scoring by getting four runs in the third inning and one in the fourth. The fifth inning, however, saw the count tied. Martin went to first on a'pass and scored on Joe Goode's three bagger, who in turn scored on Walsh's single.
