Excerpt from Las Siete Partidas del Rey Don Alfonso el Sabio, Cotejadas Con Varios Códices Antiguos, Vol. 1: Partida Primera Aunque algunas corren impresas mucho tiempo ha otras habian siempre yacido ocultas en las bibliotecas; y habiéndose hecho presen te al Rey nuestro señor que podria convenir hacer una edicion de to das baxo la direccion de la Academia, acogiendo S. M. Benigna - e mente este pensamiento, se sirvió comunicar órden este cuerpo en 6 de octubre de l 794 para que sobre su execucion informan: lo que entendiera. Dedicóse con ardor la Academia adquirir noti cia de todos los escritos que se han atribuido al rey Sabio, en que se ha supuesto tener parte, y de las bibliotecas en que se guardaban; y bien instruida en estos puntos por las exposiciones que le hicieron varios de sus individuos, curriplió con el informe que le estaba en cargado en 10 de abril de 1 798; manifestando s°bre cada una de las °bras en particular l° que entendia debia observarse para que su impresion se hiciera con la correccion y esmero convenientes; y ente rad° S. M. Se sirvió comunicar otra real órden la Academia en 6 de may° siguiente por el excelentísimo señ°r don Francisco Saavedra, por la que se dignó S. M. Aut°rizarla, especialmente para que diese la luz pública las obras de don Alfonso el X, empezando por las que en fuerza del mas maduro examen se hubiesen reputado por legiti mas; en inteligencia de que para la edicion de las primeras contri huiría S. M. C°n los auxilios pecuniari°s que se juzgasen indispensa bles, y con la calidad de que el producto de estas impresiones se de p°sitase en fondo separado para atender a las subsiguientes, que 8. M. Coadyuvaria en la parte a que el fondo de reserva no alcanza se. Así la empresa de que se publiquen y den' conocer t°das las obras del rey Sabio es enteramente de S. M que se ha dignado con fiarla la Academia; y quand° esta le hizo presente que podía dar se principio a su ekcucion por repetidas órdenes comunicadas por el excelentísim° señor don Pedro ¡cevall°s la última de las quales es de 23 de setiembre de 1803, se sirvió disp°ner que se auxiliase la Academia con fondos tománd°l°s de l°s de su imprenta real, Y que en ella se hiciese la edicion en la f°rma papel y carácter de letra que ¡i la Academia pareciese: en virtud pues de estas reales dis p°sici°nes se ha hech° de órden y expensas de S.
