Excerpt from The Fats and Oils Situation: October 14, 1938 In 1935 when lard supplies were at their lowest, the margin of the price of refined lard over vegetable cooking fats was as wide as 3 and 4 cents per pound in some months and averaged 2 cents per pound for the calendar year. In 1936 and 1937 prices of the two commodities were practically together, but during the first three-quarters of 1938 prices of vegetable cooking fats have averaged more than half a cent higher than prices of refined lard at Chicago.
