Salvator Rosa (1615-1673) was one of the boldest and most powerfully inventive artists and personalities of the Italian seventeenth century. Die Geschichte der "doctrina" ist zunachst eine Geschichte der Formen, namlich der Lehre, des Wissens, der Wissenschaft, eine Geschichte der Bedingungen und Zwange, welche die Gultigkeit einer oder mehrerer Wahrheiten bestimmen. Zugleich ist diese Geschichte unaufhebbar eine der Normen, Schreib- und Ubermittlungsregeln, aber auch der Normen des Glaubens, der Zugehorigkeit zu einer oder mehreren Gemeinschaften. Die Geschichte der "doctrina" gehort in der Anrufung der "wahren, heiligen und rechten Lehre" zur Geschichte der Geistlichkeit, der Universitat, des christlichen Unterrichts, auch zur Geschichte der Zensur und der geistigen Kontrolle, zur Geschichte der Sekten, Richtungen und Schulen in Philologie, Theologie und Wissenschaft, zur Geschichte der Intellektuellen und Gelehrten. All diese Orte der "doctrina" sind Gegenstand der Untersuchung.
