Book Description
Excerpt from Kathie's Aunt Ruth Kathie looked SO bright and winsome as she said this that Aunt Ruth smiled. I think I must accept your invitation; the day is SO very lovely that it will be a pleasure. Kathie was delighted. Since Uncle Robert had given the children the ponies, Rob had taken out his mother and Aunt Ruth quite Often. He seemed, boy-like, to have a natural aptitude for driving, while Kathie was rather timid. Mr. Meredith and her uncle had given her daily instructions, however, and She had now become quite a skilful little horse woman. She went to give her orders to Mr. Morrison, and by the time Aunt Ruth was ready the ponies pranced up the winding drive. The arrangement Of the avenue Shut Off the barn and stable from the view Of the house, bordered as it was with tall cedars, and added a picturesque air. It was a very fine August morning. There had been a Shower during the night, and the air was cool and fragrant. Everything looked fresh and green, and the dahlias, that had hung their heads in dusty languor, stood proudly erect in renewed brilliance. Birds carolled as gayly as in Springtime. Hugh Morrison helped Aunt Ruth in the carriage, and Kathie drove away with a smile Of satisfaction. For a mile or SO the ponies required her attention; but as they steadied down the child's face seemed to grow correspondingly grave. Of what are you thinking, Kathie Aunt Ruth asked, presently. O, and She looked up gayly, I was thinking Of the time Miss Jessie took us out in the sleigh, and how pleasant it was. Such a surprise too!
