Book Description
The Harmony of the Gospels in Rhyming Verse is a chronological record of the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. The book is an epic poem that contains divisions and sub divisions. Each incident is accompanied by the reference texts in which the event is recorded by any or all of the gospel writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The reader will also find a table for locating any passage in the Harmony, so that a preacher or teacher can use poetry to supplement a gospel passage with a rhyming parallel to enrich his exegesis. The Chronology and the divisions of the poem are based upon the work of the renowned John A Broadus and his student, A. T. Robertson, whose publications date back to 1893 and 1903 respectively. They printed all four gospels, skillfully arranged in parallel columns, in order to portray the course and development of Christ's life and ministry. The NIV Harmony of the Gospels is a revised Edition of their work, edited by Robert L. Thomas and Stanley N. Gundry. By adopting the outline of these scholars, Rev. Taylor has combined the four parallel columns into the most ancient form that harmonists have used. Tatian, who lived about A.D. 170, wove the four gospels into one continuous narrative called the Diatesseron.. Scores of harmonists, especially since the Protestant reformation, have followed in his steps. Although his work is done in the Diatesseron mode, Pastor Taylor's book is unique in that it is an epic poem, written in rhyming verse. V Bible scholars have noted that eighty to ninety percent of Jesus' words were originally in poetic form. This does not mean that they were in rhyming verse, but the meter, balanced lines, parallelism and so forth, created a great memory help. Since most of these qualities have been lost when the Greek text has been translated into the English language, a paraphrase in rhyming verse provides a similar aid for memory enhancement. Christian missionaries have reached the most remote tribes to translate the Scriptures into foreign languages. This book represents an effort to translate the story of Jesus into a different language, the poetic language of rhyming verse. It is an English paraphrase. It is a restatement of the life of Jesus, found in the four gospels and unified in a sequential poem. Harmony of the Gospels In Rhyming verse An Epic poem on the Life Of Jesus Christ, by Roland S. Taylor "Looking at the book I'm amazed at the amount of work you have done in order to place the gospel content in a poetic mode. As an individual who found poetry and meter extremely baffling, far more difficult to understand than philosophy or physics, thi

Book Description
For young Bill, the one time child mathematical prodigy, life is good--very, very good. After graduation from one of the finest universities in the world, he and three of his fellow prodigies are hired by a private business consortium. The consortium consists of powerful individuals that are seeking an advantage in the world of business. What they are asking Bill and his friends to do is to create a machine that will clearly give them such an advantage, and in return have been promised riches and pleasures beyond any of their imaginations. But one day, Bill, on a rest and relaxation period, receives a message from his three friends. The message asks him for an answer to a question by which the machine they successfully constructed can be tested for reliability. The question, however, is one that Bill finds annoying. It is a question for which he knows there is no truthful answer, and worse, goes well beyond the nature of science. The question also begins to wear on his conscious, and before long, something begins to make sour the sweet, sweet life he lives. What that question is and how Bill arrives at the answer just might be found at The Happy Haven.

Heartificial Intelligence
Author: John Havens
Publisher: TarcherPerigee
ISBN: 0399171711
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 306
Book Description
Algorithms will soon know more about us than we know ourselves Where should machine automation end? Is it acceptable to have a digital assistant arrange your calendar, but not to have a robot spouse? Are companion robots acceptable for seniors in need of comfort, but not okay for toddlers exposed to emotional software that could influence their behavior? Is it desirable to live a life within the virtual reality of Facebook’s Oculus Rift, but not if your thoughts are sold to advertisers who manipulate your purchases? We’ve entered an era where a myriad of personalization algorithms influence our every decision, and the lines between human assistance, automation, and extinction have blurred. We need to create ethical standards for the Artificial Intelligence usurping our lives, and allow individuals to control their identity based on their values. Otherwise, we sacrifice our humanity for productivity versus purpose and for profits versus people. Featuring pragmatic solutions drawing on economics, emerging technologies, and positive psychology, Heartificial Intelligence provides the first values-driven approach to algorithmic living—a definitive roadmap to help humanity embrace the present and positively define their future. Each chapter opens with a fictional vignette, helping readers imagine how they would respond to various Artificial Intelligence scenarios while demonstrating the need to codify their values, as the algorithms dominating society today are already doing. Funny, poignant, and accessible, this book paints a vivid portrait of how our lives might look in either a dystopia of robotic and corporate dominance, or a utopia where humans use technology to enhance our natural abilities to evolve into a long-lived, super-intelligent, and altruistic species.
