Book Description
The availability (and the development) of innovative approaches to quantitative analyses and the data processing are often mandatory to deeply characterize a sample and to correctly highlight the analytical target. These objectives are carried out either by simply improving a single aspect of the analytical protocol or by developing a synergy of steps (from extraction to instrumental configuration to chemometric approaches) to obtain the maximum analytical information sought. Examples are innovative extraction protocols (also following the recent guidelines on green analytical chemistry) or new materials for the selective extraction of target compounds, multi-analytes screening methods, and "untargeted" approaches for food applications. In this text, the various articles are attributable to these elements, in particular, we start with a multi-analyte method for the determination of 10 different cannabinoids from Cannabis sativa L. by means of conventional techniques (Mandrioli and coworkers), to then see the application of techniques hyphenated "ultra-fast" by UPLC-MS for the authentication of food products (Xue and coworkers). The work of Song and coworkers on these applications in food products is also interesting, as it highlights how the collection process (and the timing of this passage) can affect the chemical profile and, consequently, the biological activity of Panax ginseng. Mocan and coworkers, applying an innovative extraction technique based on microwaves and applying well-known, robust, and easy-to-use instrumentation, have demonstrated how it is possible to discriminate between various species of Galium and how the chemical profiles obtained can support the biological activities observed. Similarly, but with the aim of developing new sample pretreatment procedures, Maggira and collaborators have developed graphene oxide-based materials for the selective extraction of sulfonamides in milk. Shen and coworkers apply a different type of approach, the "untargeted" one, for the geographical characterization of the Gentian Rigescens for which they combine chemometric techniques for the processing of raw chemical profile data. Wang and coworkers report a multiclass screening of drugs with high-resolution mass spectrometry through which they manage to obtain a high-scale, fast screening method for pesticides in fishery drugs based on ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography tandem quadrupole-orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometer.

Book Description
Fabric Phase Sorptive Extraction: Principles, Applications and Potentials is the first book to cover this new sample preparation technique. Sample preparation remains a matter of great concern and interest among academics, researchers and scientists as it is undoubtedly a major source of error and the most time-consuming step in the analytical/bioanalytical workflow, and the lack of harmonization among different sample preparation technologies inherently creates disparity in the data quality. To minimize the impact of sample preparation, FPSE combines the extraction mechanisms of two major sample preparation techniques-solid phase extraction (governed by exhaustive extraction) and solid phase microextraction (governed by equilibrium-based extraction)-into a single sample preparation platform. In addition, FPSE allows researchers to utilize all the extraction phases available for both solid phase extraction and solid phase microextraction. Edited by the inventor of Fabric Phase Sorptive Extraction (FPSE), this book will educate current and future scientists about the role of sample preparation in modern separation science and the approaches that can be used to simplify and greenify this important step in analytical/bioanalytical workflow.

Book Description
Analysis imposes substantial challenges, especially when dealing with analytes present at trace levels in complex matrices. Although modern instrumentation has simplified analyses and makes them more reliable, its use is only the last step of the whole analytical process. On the other hand, sample preparation still represents the bottleneck in many analytical methods and often requires the use of extensive protocols before instrumental analysis. Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) is a well-established sample-prep technique for simultaneous extraction and pre-concentration of compounds from a variety of matrices. Given its compliance with the principles of green analytical chemistry, as well as the simplicity, versatility, and availability of different formats, SPME addresses several challenges associated with the traditional sample preparation approaches and allows for a substantial streamlining of the analytical workflow. This book is the reprint of a Special Issue that includes six contributions provided by some of the world's leading research groups in the field and focuses on recent advances in solid-phase microextraction.

Book Description
Analytical Chemistry: Developments, Applications and Challenges in Food Analysis represents a collection of book chapters showing the validation and instrumental set up of analytical methods that are used to analyze foods and their ingredients. The different chapters include several topics discussing the validation of analytical methods, extraction procedures, and other multidisciplinary approaches for the analysis of foods, particularly supplements originated from raw plant materials. In these book chapters, we would like to collect different methods and tools to provide a multidisciplinary approach for the analysis of foods, their ingredients, natural and synthetic supplements. The book includes preliminary approaches used to validate analytical methods and a detailed description of the various matrix effects that disturb the analysis by using the hyphenated techniques, sample preparations, and a complete overview of principal phenolic constituents, until the use of instrumental configurations able to characterize foods (NMR and its applications). The use of voltammetry and atomic absorption spectroscopy for toxic metals in seafood, food supplements, the application of thermal techniques and innovative approaches in the analysis of proteins in foods and food supplements are included.Analytical chemists and researchers working in the field of validation methods, foods and food supplements, and those who use standard and innovative instruments to analyze products and/or innovative extraction procedures are potential audience members for this book.
