Book Description
Anthropogenic activity especially land use for agricultural activities in developing countries, is increasing greenhouse gas concentration in the atmosphere, threatening human development and ecosystem resilience now and in future. Whether or not a country contributes to the causes of climate change, the effects of climate change are experienced globally with diverse pressure exerted on natural resources, communities and societies. This paper therefore, sought to explore the incentives for community participation in a climate change mitigation programme. Specifically, it questioned the impact of the participatory environmental management approach (PEMA) on local community livelihoods? Secondly, it assessed the contribution of PEMA to forest conservation? And thirdly, it assessed the incentives for local community participation in the programme (PEMA)?

Book Description
This study analyzes the interrelationship between local benefits and global environment benefits in the Global Environment Facility (GEF) strategies and projects in order to: Enhance GEF policies, strategies, and project design and implementation so these can effectively promote the potential for local gains in those global environmental programs where actors need to be mobilized for long-term support of sound environmental management, costs incurred by local communities for supplying global environmental goods need to be reduced, and possible negative impacts need to be ameliorated. Strengthen GEF monitoring and evaluation policies and processes to develop indicators for, and enhance the tracking of, local benefits and negative impacts. Expand the body of existing operational knowledge of good practices and experiences germane to pursuing global environmental issues and of constraints or fallacies to be avoided in operations. Disseminate widely the most valuable lessons of existing experience and show how these lessons can be implemented in future GEF operations.

Book Description
The Kyoto Protocol to reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the majority of industrialised countries is the first small step on the way to an effective climate policy. In the long-term, climate policy will call for greater GHG reductions and the full participation of the global community. The five integrated chapters of this book review theoretical findings and empirical evidence in the search for the right incentives which could induce firms and governments to undertake GHG abatement measures. This book analyses the policy mixes that provide the best possible incentives for firms and governments to act on climate change and sign up to international climate agreements. In doing so, the authors address a multitude of related issues including the linkages between flexible mechanisms and voluntary agreements; regulation and taxation; the opportunities and barriers of the Kyoto Protocol for industry; and the incentives for firms to undertake climate-related R&D and investments. As well as illustrating the environmental benefits and cost-effectiveness of alternative policy mixes in reducing GHG emissions, the authors also offer sensible policy prescriptions for increasing the numbers of countries that ratify and implement climate agreements. Environmental and resource economists, environmental scientists, climate analysts and policymakers should all read this book which offers an authoritative contribution to what is arguably the most critical contemporary environmental policy issue.

Book Description
Increasingly, the consequences of globalization call for the involvement not only of national governments but of the international development community as a whole. Such involvement needs to occur within a comprehensive framework that encompasses stakeholders from government, non-governmental organizations, and businesses acting together in partnership. This requires the leveraging of general aid and country-focused development resources along with encouraging private financing participation. 'International Public Goods' explains different ways that this type of framework might be structured and focuses on different financing strategies that can be developed. It acknowledges the value of country specific efforts while recommending a multi-national approach to addressing problems resulting from globalization. This book evaluates the concepts fundamental to the term ?public goods? and details alternative governance structures including the role of incentives.
