Book Description
Pen in the Park is a unique revolutionary children's book written by Ra'el Meseri and illustrated by Sanne Karssenberg. Meseri narrates the Gezi Park protests in Istanbul through the figure of a penguin named Pen, whogoes on a trip from Antarctica to Gezi Park to save his fellow penguins, and gets involved in various adventures with his friends Chapulletta, the cat Trafo, and the dog Loukanikos. The Gezi movement of 2013-14 started with the threat of the destruction of the Gezi Park, a public space, which became quickly occupied by protestors from all generations and political backgrounds to build a movement that addressed not only the destruction of green areas and gentrification of public space, but also the democratic deficit of the country as such. At the height of the protests, dozens of protesters were killed and thousands injured. As the result of the protests, the park remained a public space and the struggle continues in different forms up to this day. During the protests, penguins were reclaimed as one of the symbols, as the main television channels preferred to show documentaries about the lives of penguins, instead of the uprising in Turkey. In Meseri's story, Pen the brave penguin, Pen, is both a symbol and an active agent in the course of events, guiding us through the process of political emancipation, democratic experiment, friendship, and solidarity that characterizes the Gezi movement.

Book Description
Tucker Renfro hasn’t seen his little sister in seven years, and when she finally comes to visit, he’s sure she’s made it her mission to drive him crazy—why won’t Olivia leave him alone? Tucker Renfro is obsessed with Native American culture, and nothing is more important to him than his tribe—his dad and his best friend, Joe Allen. When Tucker’s sister comes to visit, he isn’t exactly excited to see her. Tucker hasn’t seen his mother or sister since they left his dad seven years ago, so Olivia is a stranger to him. He cannot believe he has to put up with such an annoying little sister, especially one who won’t stop talking about their mother, whom Tucker can barely remember. No matter how hard she is trying, and no matter how much his dad likes having her around, Tucker will not allow Olivia to be part of his tribe. But when Olivia tells Tucker that their mom wants to come back so they can live as a family, Tucker can’t help but imagine how great it would be to have everyone together again. Maybe, just maybe, Olivia isn’t the worst sister in the world.

Book Description
Sharon Sholl is an ordinary girl growing up in America. She meets an ordinary young man, Mark Main, two weeks before her sixteenth birthday, who blows to pieces her little world, she says of him. An American Girl is a relational journey, which, no matter how you look at it, is a love story. Sharon's love story is about her extraordinary life with Mark whom she met in 1968, four weeks before he was to leave for Vietnam. From the moment she was born, she also traveled a relational journey with the God of the universe, the Creator God. She didn't pursue that relationship seriously until in her early forties, she and Mark came to a point in their marriage when it seemed as though they had hit rock bottom. Sharon presents the beautiful, the distressing, and the unattractive of her journey of nearly seventy years. Perhaps as you read about this ordinary American girl, you will identify with some of the challenges but mostly with the joys one encounters in this life on earth, joys that are available to all.

Book Description
The North Carolina Gazetteer first appeared to wide acclaim in 1968 and has remained an essential reference for anyone with a serious interest in the Tar Heel State, from historians to journalists, from creative writers to urban planners, from backpackers to armchair travelers. This revised and expanded edition adds approximately 1,200 new entries, bringing to nearly 21,000 the number of North Carolina cities, towns, crossroads, waterways, mountains, and other places identified here. The stories attached to place names are at the core of the book and the reason why it has stood the test of time. Some recall faraway places: Bombay, Shanghai, Moscow, Berlin. Others paint the locality as a little piece of heaven on earth: Bliss, Splendor, Sweet Home. In many cases the name derivations are unusual, sometimes wildly so: Cat Square, Huggins Hell, Tater Hill, Whynot. Telling us much about our own history in these snapshot histories of particular locales, The North Carolina Gazetteer provides an engaging, authoritative, and fully updated reference to place names from all corners of the Tar Heel State.
