Book Description
Excerpt from Improvement Era, Vol. 20: Organ of the Priesthood Quorums, the Young Men's Mutual Improvement Associations, and the School of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Certain opponents of the Latter-day Saints have in the past professed to have had fears that the Mormon priesthood, or hierarchy, as they were pleased to term it, would, if left to the full development of their plans, seize upon the liberties of the nation. This charge formed, and I believe still forms, the basis of an extensive campaign against the Mormon people, but happily losing its force as the facts are becoming more gen erally known. To assist in allaying any such fears that may re main in the minds of the unenlightened, and with the further view of placing before the priesthood of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints some of the powers and limitations of their callings, this article is written. It is not intended as an exhaustive study of the question, so much as an introduction, merely, to the fundamentals of the subject, such as the length of a single article would permit. Book Description
Excerpt from The Improvement Era, Vol. 29: April, 1926 The slogan of the Mutual Improvement Association during the current season is We stand for 'an individual testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ. Many non-believers, generally, 'might question the practicability of this slogan. Some of them would at once say that it is impossible to get such a testimony, a sufficiently good reason being, they would assert, that Jesus was only a man, no more divine than any other man; but even if he is divine, there is no way for common mortal men individually to know this. The latter View is taken, I believe, by most Christians. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The Improvement Era, Vol. 20: August, 1917 At the close of the fifteenth century the then known world was growing old, as man counts time. Chaldea, Egypt, Baby lonia, Greece and Rome, each with a civilization which it had been thought would always endure, had flourished and passed into history, leaving only magnificent ruins to testify of their greatness. The great kingdom of Israel, the chosen people of the Lord, had been scattered to the four winds of heaven. A multitude of nations had come out from these kingdoms, each burdened with the memories, traditions and errors of the past, in both civil and religious life. Book Description
Excerpt from Improvement Era, Vol. 20: September, 1917 I was very curious to know what the bundle contained, but I worked on until the last trace of disorder was cleared away. It was then past five o'clock, the time for closing, so I took my belongings, the curious bundle, and the aged newspaper, and seated myself in the shade of a tree in the back yard.
