Safety Modifications of Turned-down Guardrail Terminals
Author: John A. Hinch
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Roads
Languages : en
Pages : 48
Book Description
The purpose of the study was to develop safety modifications for turned-down guardrail terminals. The study incorporated the use of analysis, laboratory testing and full scale testing to develop a new terminal system. This terminal, Controlled Releasing Terminal (CRT), was tested against the performance requirements of TRC 191 and NCHRP 230 and found to pass.

Book Description
"This digest summarizes the findings of Phase I of NCHRP Project 22-16, 'Development of an improved roadside barrier system.' Although the project panel decided not to proceed with Phase II, the Phase I research provides a summary of the state of the art on the use of various guardrail systems ... This digest is based on a draft final report prepared by a research team lead [sic] by Dr. Karl Barth, West Virginia University"--P. [1].

Guardrail Performance and Design
Author: Jarvis Dale Michie
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Transportation
Languages : en
Pages : 432
Book Description
Barrier installations are warranted (or justified) only at highway locations where the consequence of an errant vehicle leaving the roadway is judged to be more hazardous than the impact with the barrier installation. A six degree-of-freedom mathematical model was found to be useful in describing dynamic behavior of a vehicle during impact. Predictions of vehicle and barrier behavior correlated with results obtained from full-scale crash tests. Crash conditions simulated with a computer were used to identify and evaluate vehicle static and dynamic as well as barrier parameters. Vehicle weight, yaw mass moment of inertia, and deformation constant were found to be significant.
