Book Description
Howard Phillips Lovecraft was born to a well-to-do family in Providence, Rhode Island. As a child, he revealed remarkable precocity in his early interests in literature and science. Ill-health dogged him in youth, rendering his school attendance sporadic; and in 1908 he experienced a nervous breakdown that rendered him a virtual recluse for several years. In 1914 he discovered the world of amateur journalism and began slowly emerging from his hermitry. He wrote tremendous amounts of essays, poetry, and other work; in 1917, under the encouragement from W. Paul Cook and others, he resumed the writing of horror fiction, and his career as a dream-weaver began anew. In 1921 Lovecraft met his future wife, Sonia H. Greene, at an amateur journalism convention. It was at this time that he began expanding his horizons, both geographical and intellectual: he traveled widely, from New England to New York to Cleveland; and he absorbed such literary and intellectual influences as Lord Dunsany, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Arthur Machen. In 1924 he and Sonia decided to marry, and Lovecraft moved to New York to pursue his literary fortune. But, as the first volume of this biography concludes, his metropolitan adventure would be bittersweet at best. S. T. Joshi's award-winning biography H. P. Lovecraft: A Life (1996) provided the most detailed portrait of the life, work, and thought of the dreamer from Providence ever published. But that edition was in fact abridged from Joshi's original manuscript, and this expanded and updated two-volume edition restores the 150,000 words that Joshi omitted and, in addition, updates the texts with new findings.

I Am Righteous
Author: Samuel J. Kim
Publisher: 도서출판 의제당
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 253
Book Description
Anyone who has sincerely faced the Law, as Paul did, is compelled to cry out in anguish, "O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?" (Romans 7:24). As descendants of Adam, we are fundamentally flawed sinners, utterly incapable of entering Heaven by our efforts. Nevertheless, God the Father bestowed upon us His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, as the atonement for our sins. Jesus, the Son of God incarnate, assured our deliverance from condemnation through His baptism by John the Baptist, the representative of all humanity, thus "condemning sin in the flesh" (Romans 8:3). "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death" (Romans 8:1-2). Have you attained the status of a righteous individual, free from condemnation? If the answer is no, it is crucial to recognize that you remain subjected to the law of sin and death, having not embraced the law of the Spirit of life. The law of the Spirit of life embodies the essence of the Original Gospel. In this authentic Gospel, the Righteousness of God was fulfilled by Jesus Christ, the Son of God, "who came by water and blood" (1 John 5:6). Believers in the Gospel of the water and the blood are endowed with God's Righteousness, securing salvation devoid of condemnation. From Romans chapter 12 onwards, the Word speaks about the appropriate life of the born-again righteous. The righteous present themselves as "a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God" (Romans 12:1). Born-again saints deny their thoughts and righteousness, take up their cross, and live entirely for the proclamation of the Gospel. Through two volumes of expository sermons on Romans, I hope all readers receive God's grace abundantly. Furthermore, I wish for deep fellowship in love among the righteous who have received the grace of salvation within the truth of the Gospel.

The Three Bodies of Laws
Author: Hayden Patrick
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
ISBN: 1645692035
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 111
Book Description
Where there are laws, two philosophical ideologies become apparent, and those are the notions of a mind and heart of the lawgiver and predictability; the peace that comes from consistency of outcome having followed a prescribed "formula." The author takes the biological and the natural universe, considering the creation and the evolution models, and puts them under three bodies of laws-natural science, dominion, spirit. Then he takes a Christian world view while framing the nontheistic view as a counter balance. The author examines life under the laws of the natural and supernatural universe. Using simple logic with theological overtones, humor, and the art of storytelling, the author captures the imagination to deliver bite-sized nuggets of appetizing insights into life as it should be under the three laws. Biblical stories are reexamined, and new life is extracted that inspires one to dig deeper and act as the impetus to know more. While the book delves into science and religion, the angle chosen presents a lighter side to what can be heavy, often perplexing topics. These weighty topics are transformed in the book into what can be considered interesting with perspectives into science and religion that are wonderfully palatable. It's a "dig and read to the end" kind of book and one that you will want to mark and return to time and time again to extract one or more of the many nuggets that are relevant to understanding life under the three laws that govern human existence.
