Book Description
History in the making in the 1800s and 1900s in a small rural Southeastern community is something that most Americans never get to experience in their lifetime. A lot of readers would enjoy reading about such a magical place in time, especially how life was without public transportation, without public communication, without electricity and without inside running water and bathroom facilities. It provides an eye-opening perspective into today's American luxuries! Nevertheless, love stories of families excelling in such "a time as this" is evident and resilience holds while technology abounds. Snow Camp, North Carolina today is much the same with several churches, one elementary school, one post office, one gas station, one fire station, a couple of restaurants, and a couple of small grocery/variety stores. It does boast of an Outdoor Drama, "The Sword of Peace" that draws many visitors during the Summer. A historical marker located in the heart of Snow Camp states that Lord Cornwallis camped in the area after the Battle of Guilford Courthouse and used the home of a Quaker, Simon Dixon, as his headquarters. This is a documentation of a place in"time" as it slowly, but surely, slips away! Debbie Moon, the author, was granted the privilege of growing up in such an environment at such a time as this! She is a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, church musician, children's choir director, paralegal analyst, breast cancer survivor, and friend to all. Blessings to you as her legacy is shared.

Book Description
Take a journey through the long and exciting history of North Carolina grapes and vines. The state's native grapes grew with a wild abandon that uniformly impressed early explorers. Wine production, however, is another story--one with peaks and valleys and switchbacks. Alexia Jones Helsley recounts a tale of promise that was long unfulfilled, of disappointments and success and of competing visions and grapes. These pages speak to those intrigued by the romance of the native muscadines, appreciative of the complex varieties of North Carolina wine and fascinated by the enduring drama of human beings and their dreams. In the Old North State, the highly acclaimed vineyards of today have deep roots in the state's past.

Book Description
In the 1750s, Quakers from Pennsylvania and Virginia settled in the North Carolina Piedmont, eventually organizing Spring Friends Meeting in 1763. The Friends still gather by the spring and wait for the light to descend upon them 250 years later. Spring Meeting nursed the injured and dying in the American Revolution, said goodbye to members migrating to farmlands in the Northwest, stood against slavery in the antebellum years, helped reconstruct the South in the late 1800s, and held their pacifist beliefs throughout the 20th century. A record-setting World Series pitcher, leading educators, missionaries, and major figures in North Carolina Quaker leadership fill its rolls. Persevering through the ebb and flow of revivals and apathy, Spring Meeting has left its mark in history. Today the spring flows, the front door remains unlocked, and members still gather on First Sundays.
