Book Description
Excerpt from Historical Record of the Sixteenth, or the Bedfordshire Regiment of Foot The character and credit of the British Army must chiefly depend upon the zeal and ardour by which all who enter into its service are animated, and consequently it is of the highest importance that any measure calculated to excite the Spirit of emulation, by which alone great and gallant actions are achieved, should be adopted. Nothing can more fully tend to the accomplishment of this desirable object than a full display of the noble deeds with which the Military History of our country abounds. To hold forth these bright examples to the imitation of the youthful soldier, and thus to incite him to emulate the meritorious conduct of those who have preceded him in their honorable career, are among the motives that have given rise to the present publication. Historical Record of the Sixteenth, or, the Bedfordshire Regiment of Foot
Author: Richard Cannon
Publisher: Good Press
ISBN:
Category : Fiction

Pages : 62
Book Description
During the autumn of 1688, King James II faced a threat from the Dutch William, Prince of Orange who had brought an army to England on the order of seven English Lords. The King was in a dangerous position, and as a reaction, he authorized the raising of new battalions of Pikemen and Musketeers. The first of these was raised by a prominent veteran Scottish soldier, Archibald Douglas, and, this regiment was known as the 16th Regiment of Foot. Raised during this period of turmoil in Europe, the 16th Regiment of Foot was later called the Bedfordshire Regiment. This historical work presents an interesting account of the services of the Bedfordshire Regiment of the British Army. This well-structured record contains several particulars about the war such as the period and circumstances of the original formation of the regiment, the names of the officers killed or wounded by the enemy, the battles, sieges, and other military operations.
