John Henry, son of Robert and Mary Woodburn Henry, was born in March 1763 in Derry County, Ireland. He came to America in 1788, landing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and settling in Chester County, where he worked most of the time as a farm laborer. He later returned to Ireland where he stayed for several years before bringing his wife to America in 1801. They settled first in Chester County, Pennsylvania then removed to Washington County, Ohio eventually purchasing a farm near " ... Hamar, now West Marietta ... "--P.3 In 1815 the farm was sold and the family moved to previously purchased land in what is now present day Bern Township, Athens County, Ohio. He was married twice. First to Rachel Henry in Ireland in 1787. She died in 1809. He married secondly Margaret McNutt who died 12 April 1857. John Henry died 27 February 1854 in Bern Township, Athens County, Ohio. Descendants lived in Ohio, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Massachusetts, Illinois, California and elsewhere.
