Sometimes, other details such as birthdays, were recorded. Additionally, details of all licenses returned unexecuted were recorded. The main part of the book is an alphabetical listing of all the grooms. A full name index of the brides follows in the last section. Actual images from the official marriage books from the Hamilton courthouse were examined, abstracted, and presented within these pages. Marion County was established in 1818 with the courthouse at Pikeville. In 1881, the county seat was moved to Hamilton. The courthouse burned in April of 1887 and all the earliest marriage records were destroyed. This volume begins with the records which were kept following the catastrophic fire of 1887. Grooms names are alphabetized and the book contains a full name bride's index. It is hoped this volume contributes to the body of knowledge for Marion County--an important county in Northwest Alabama.

At least five different Weems men settled on Long Cane Creek in Abbeville County, South Carolina before the Revolutionary War. Even today there are Weems living in Abbeville County, both white and black. For years, genealogists have been confused about who is the son of whom, but land records make it clear that '4' men; Thomas (Eleanor) Weems, Redfearn Weems, Thomas (and Elizabeth) Weems, and Henry Weems all were granted land on Long Cane Creek.
