Book Description
TRAVEL & HOLIDAY GUIDES. The volcanic island of Grenada and the smaller Grenadines, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, sit at the southern tip of the Windward Islands chain in the eastern Caribbean. In 2004, they were decimated by Hurricane Ivan. The nutmeg trees on which the economy was once reliant were destroyed, and buildings and infrastructure collapsed. But now the islands have been rebuilt, renovated and improved. They are once more open for business, and enjoying a newfound prosperity as visitor numbers increase year on year. This guide takes hikers on treks through the rainforest, and divers to The Bianca C, the largest shipwreck in the Caribbean. It shows cultural visitors the nation's diverse heritage and rich musical traditions and leads those in need of a little lie-down to unspoilt beaches and secluded coves.

Book Description
Written by Caribbean-based writer and photographer Paul Crask, this new, thoroughly updated third edition of Bradt's Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique is the only standalone guide available to this alluring Caribbean destination. With insider knowledge of the islands, from luxurious villas and resorts to pastoral villages and mountain trails, Bradt's Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique is rich in detail, local colour and practical information, and offers detailed accommodation, dining and activities listings as well as the author's own take on how to maximise your stay. Whether you are into sailing, scuba diving wrecks and reefs, kayaking through mangrove forests, hiking mountain trails, 'jumping-up' at carnival, or sampling vintage rums at historic distilleries and luxurious beachside resorts, Bradt's Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique is ideal for travellers of all kinds. This new edition covers the many developments on the islands in the past few years. Investment in accommodation on Grenada continues and the diversity of options is impressive: from the new Sandals resort to the Rumboat Retreat, a lodge that welcomes independent travellers as well as rum enthusiasts. More airlines now fly directly to Grenada's Maurice Bishop International Airport and the annual sailing regattas continue to attract a large international gathering. With easy access to and from North America and Europe, and with plenty of great accommodation and dining options, scenic Grenada offers a perfect blend of traditional island life with modern Caribbean living. Grenada is a tri-island nation famed for its nutmeg and cocoa, sailing regattas, jaw-dropping beaches and strong cultural traditions. The main island, Grenada, has a tall spine of forested mountain ridges surrounded by rivers, waterfalls and farmlands, and the scenic coastline is replete with secluded bays and anchorages. To the north, at the southern tip of the Grenadines island chain, Carriacou and Petite Martinique are tranquil and beautiful. Noted for traditions of Big Drum Dance and boat building, both islands enjoy deserted beaches and coral reefs and offer a warm and friendly welcome.

Book Description
Recent tragic political events have propelled the tiny Caribbean islands of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique into the affairs of Superpowers. Within the last two decades more books have been written on Grenada than in its entire history. Far more than just being an account of the political history of the island, A-Z of Grenada provides a fascinating examination of the island, incorporating the varied and frequently ignored aspects of the culture, history, and natural environment of the island.

Book Description
The election of Ronald Reagan as President of the United States in November 1980 opened a new chapter in international relations; U.S. foreign policy shifted from an alliance-based, consensual approach to one based on a more overt use of its immense economic and, above all, military power. This policy entailed some stark choices for the U.S.A.’s allies and neighbours and, above all, for the small countries of Central America and the Caribbean. This revealing book tells the story of the Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI), through which the new assertion of U.S. hegemony in the region was expressed. The CBI entitled “friendly” countries of the region (i.e., excluding Cuba, pre-invasion Grenada and Nicaragua) to military and economic aid plus incentives, modelled on the so-called “Puerto Rican miracle,” so as to reorient their trade towards the U.S.A. The authors carefully compare the claims made for the CBI with its underlying political objectives and examine its actual impact on regional development through detailed case studies of the Eastern Caribbean and Trinidad. Also examined are the impact of the CBI on Caribbean regional integration and the responses of Canada and Britain, the two other major countries with long-standing political and economic interests in the Caribbean. What emerges from this investigation is the way the CBI reflects the U.S.A.’s historic quest for regional dominance, rather than a new era in Caribbean development.

Book Description
This book is ‘revolutionary’ in multiple ways. It is intensely personal as well as instructively political – both in a revolutionary sense. Rare insight is to be gained of theological and ideological struggles. Sharp analysis is made of politics in the arena of the Anglophone Caribbean. The perspective of a woman ‘freshens’ the analysis; and, the revelation of the mind of a dedicated Evangelical Christian stamps uniqueness on every page. Furthermore, practical suggestions are made for the improvement of Western Parliamentary democracy in this part of the world. The prose is clear and artistic and the information holds interest from beginning to end. Modesty in personality and mastery in writing shine through the story that is compelling reading for anyone with the slightest interest in the history, politics, religion and culture of Anglophone Caribbean countries.
