This report presents the government's response to recommendations based on public meetings in Atlantic Canada on fisheries management issues and The Atlantic Groundfish Strategy (TAGS). The 23 recommendations concern fishing within and outside Canada's 200-mile limit. Eleven of the recommendations focus on foreign fishing. Others call for: the continuation of assistance to fisheries workers affected by ongoing groundfish closures; extended support for the sealing industry; removal of DFO officials responsible for the fisheries collapse; improvements to enforcement and radio communications, an independent review of how DFO sets the total allowable catches; and new rules for replacing fishing vessels.
