Geochemistry of Grenville Marble in Southeastern Ontario
Author: W. T. Grant
Publisher: Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, Mines and Minerals Division,$c1989.
ISBN:
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 284
Book Description
Of the results of a 3-year investigation of the geology and geochemistry of Grenville marble in southeastern Ontario. This material is a source of building stone, crushed stone, terrazzo chips, poultry grit, lime, and magnesium metal. The report identified areas of high-purity marble suitable as an industrial mineral source; assessed the variability, both geochemically and geologically, of marble; and determined regional calcium/magnesium trends within individual marble belts as a guide to industrial mineral and base-metal mineralization. Emphasis was placed upon the rapid chemical analysis of a large sample population. As a follow-up, areas containing high-purity marbles, as indicated by regional samples, were mapped in detail to better define the extent of the high-purity marble. Exactly 1912 samples were collected from lithologically homogeneous marble units and these samples were chemically analyzed for up to 28 elements, plus loss on ignition.
