Book Description
Over the last decades, the activity rate of women has strongly increases throughout Europe and has been one of the major changes affecting our societies in general and the workplace in particular. Many reasons explain this increase, such as the recognition of their high level of education, the wish for autonomy and social recognition, the necessity of a double income. But while more women work (in some coutries the activity rates for men and women are identical), they still face problems in the workplace to get the same status as men (the "glass ceiling"), and they are still overwhelmingly responsible for family and domestic duties. In 1991 and 1996 the Foundation carried out statistical surveys on working conditions in all Member States. The Second European Survey on Working Conditions (1996) was designed with gender specific issues in mind. The present document reports on its finding with regard to gender differences in the workplace and discusses them in the light of the ongoing debate on equal opportunities. With this report the Foundation hopes to provide policy makers with a better understanding of the problemes to overcome in order to promote gender sensitive workplaces Editor

Book Description
This report aims to evaluate the Foundation's 2001 working conditions survey in the acceding and candidate countries (Foundation, 2003), as well as providing original analysis of data gathered by 10 national research teams. The resulting national reports provide a wealth of material analysing key dimensions of the labour market and work situation for women during a period of economic transition. This report puts these findings in context, and synthesises and analyses them at a comparative level, in addition to examining the Foundation's survey in greater depth.

Book Description
This work of reference represents a remarkably complete, detailedand extensive review of the field of gender, work and organizationin the second decade of the 21st century. Its authorsrepresent eight countries and many disciplines includingmanagement, sociology, political science, and gender studies. Thechapters, by top scholars in their areas of expertise, offer bothreviews and empirical findings, and insights and challenges forfurther work. The chapters are organized in five sections:Histories and Philosophies; Organizing Work and the GenderedOrganization; Embodiment; Globalization; and Diversity. Theoretical and conceptual developments at the cutting edge ofthe field are explicated and illustrated by the handbook’sauthors. Methods for conducting research into gender, work andorganization are reviewed and assessed as well as illustrated inthe work of several chapters. Efforts to produce greater gender equality in the workplaceare covered in nearly every chapter, in terms of past successes andfailures. Military organizations are presented as one of thedifficult to change in regards to gender (with the result thatwomen are marginalized in practice even when official policies andgoals require their full inclusion). The role of the body/embodiment is emphasized in severalchapters, with attention both to how organizations disciplinebodies and how organizational members use their bodies to gainadvantage. Particular attention is paid to sexuality in/andorganizations, including sexual harassment, policies to alleviatebias, and the likelihood that future work will pay more attentionto the body’s presence and role in work andorganizations. Many chapters also address “change efforts” thathave been employed by individuals, groups, and organizations, including transnational ones such as the European Union, the UnitedNations, and so on. In addition to its value for teachers and students within thisfield, it also offers insights that would be of value to policymakers and practitioners who need to reflect on the latest thinkingrelating to gender at work and in organizations.

Book Description
Both women and men strive to achieve a work and family balance, but does this imply more or less equality? Does the persistence of gender and class inequalities refute the notion that lives are becoming more individualised? This book documents how gender inequalities are changing and how many inequalities of earlier eras are being eradicated.
