Book Description
Excerpt from History of the Frankfort Cemetery We cherish the memory of the soldiers who gave their lives to the service of this country and who have thus secured for their native State an honored name among the states of the Nation. We rejoice that so many of the officers and men who won lasting fame for Kentucky during the wars in which this republic has been engaged, and who laid down their lives in the defense of their country, have been removed to' the State's beautiful necropolis, and that they now rest in the bosom of their native State and their bodies have become a part of the earth for which they gave their lives. We rejoice that our fathers have preserved in granite and marble the names of those men who fell in the defense of this country, and by so doing they testified to the world their regard for Kentucky's gallant dead. We are also proud of those great Kentuckians whose virtues and faithful service in civil life are lamps unto our feet and lights unto our path. Their purity of life, their wisdom and their patriotism make their dust the most sacred heritage of a patriotic people. All the nations of the earth have honored, and have striven to perpetuate, the memory of their great and good. The Jews carried with them the bones of Joseph, their benefactor, during their wanderings through the wilderness, while in search of the Promised Land. The pyramids of Egypt are monuments to the great men of an early civilization. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Follow the final days of an American frontier icon as a historian examines what happened to him after he died. Finding Daniel Boone is a unique tribute to America’s frontier hero and offers closure to the greatest of all his mysteries: where he was buried. Part biography, part historical travelogue, and eloquently narrated using fresh sources, rare forensic data, and new field interviews, this is more than just a search for a man’s bones. Fully re-creating Daniel’s lost world, noted historian and author Ted Franklin Belue journeys along the famous Pathfinder’s last trail, from Missouri and back to Kentucky, meeting a host of colorful characters. As little has been written about Boone’s western days, where he lived the longest, this work examines the legendary woodsman’s life as much as his death. “With vivid writing, and ample historic documentation, Ted Franklin Belue invites readers on an incredible journey that introduces them to a new slant on an old story about one of the greatest American frontier heroes. Belue tirelessly re-creates Boone’s lost world and follows his last trail in the year of his death’s bicentennial, teasing us with a provocative question: Where does Daniel Boone rest, in Missouri or Kentucky?” —KYForward

Book Description
Encountering evidence of postmortem examinations - dissection or autopsy in historic skeletal collections is relatively rare, but recently there has been an increase in the number of reported instances. And much of what has been evaluated has been largely descriptive and historical. The Bioarchaeology of Dissection and Autopsy brings together in a single volume the skeletal evidence of postmortem examination in the United States. Ranging from the early colonial period to the early 1900’s, from a coffeehouse at Colonial Williamsburg to a Quaker burial vault in lower Manhattan, the contributions to this volume demonstrate the interpretive significance of a historically and theoretically contextualized bioarchaeology. The authors employ a wide range of perspectives, demonstrating how bioarchaeological evidence can be used to address a wide range of themes including social identity and marginalization, racialization, the nature of the body and fragmentation, and the emergence of medical practice and authority in the United States.
