The Chemistry of Fluorine and Its Compounds
Author: H. J. Emeléus
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483273040
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 144
Book Description
The Chemistry of Fluorine and Its Compounds is an expanded and updated treatment of the material presented in a series of five lectures given by Professor Emeleus while in residence at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in November and December, 1966. This book is one of a series of monographs made possible by a Science Center Development Grant from the National Science Foundation that enabled the Institute's Department of Chemistry to establish a Distinguished Visiting Lectureship that is held successively by a number of eminent chemists, each of whom has played a leading part in the development of some important area of chemical research. The book opens with an introductory chapter on the chemistry of fluorine. This is followed by separate chapters on halogen fluorides, oxygen fluorides, hypofluorites, fluorides of Group III, carbon fluorides; and perfluoro organometallic compounds fluorides of silicon, germanium, tin, and lead. Subsequent chapters deal with fluorides of nitrogen and related compounds; fluorides of phosphorus, arsenic, antimony, and bismuth; and fluorides of sulfur, selenium, and tellurium.

Fluorine
Author: Heather Hasan
Publisher: The Rosen Publishing Group, Inc
ISBN: 1435842316
Category : Juvenile Nonfiction
Languages : en
Pages : 49
Book Description
Fluorine is a poisonous and corrosive gas and breathing just a tiny bit of fluorine can damage the lungs. But, fluorines reactivity makes it a very useful element - it is used in toothpaste and in nonstick surfaces for frying pans, and to refine uranium fuel that is utilized in nuclear power plants. Students learn about fluorines phase at room temperature, its place within a very special group, VIIA, called the halogens, on the periodic table, its physical and chemical properties, and about its isotopes and atomic weight.

Introduction to Modern Inorganic Chemistry, 6th edition
Author: R.A. Mackay
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 148226840X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 625
Book Description
This popular and comprehensive textbook provides all the basic information on inorganic chemistry that undergraduates need to know. For this sixth edition, the contents have undergone a complete revision to reflect progress in areas of research, new and modified techniques and their applications, and use of software packages. Introduction to Modern Inorganic Chemistry begins by explaining the electronic structure and properties of atoms, then describes the principles of bonding in diatomic and polyatomic covalent molecules, the solid state, and solution chemistry. Further on in the book, the general properties of the periodic table are studied along with specific elements and groups such as hydrogen, the 's' elements, the lanthanides, the actinides, the transition metals, and the "p" block. Simple and advanced examples are mixed throughout to increase the depth of students' understanding. This edition has a completely new layout including revised artwork, case study boxes, technical notes, and examples. All of the problems have been revised and extended and include notes to assist with approaches and solutions. It is an excellent tool to help students see how inorganic chemistry applies to medicine, the environment, and biological topics.
