Book Description
Obstetric fistula is as old as mankind. While the incidence has diminished progressively with better health care in Western societies, the situation has changed little in many developing countries. Fistulae of pelvic organs, often monstrous defects, still are a major complication of child-birth causing misery to uncounted young women, and if they cannot find help in one of the very few hospitals with trained specialists, they became urological cripples losing everything: family, home and job. The magnitude of the problem is illustrated by some figures given by Reginald and Catherine Hamlin-about 700 fistula patients treated each year-a total of over 10,000 cases operated upon in their fistula hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethio pia. Most of these injuries could be prevented by better health care at the village level as some studies have shown conclusively. The incidence of fistula is an indicator of the standard of health and obstetrical care. The author of this book-Obstetric Fistula-is an internationally known Australian gynaecologist who for many years has been interested in all aspects of gynaecological urology, especially urinary stress inconti nence, other forms of involuntary loss of urine, and associated gynaeco logical conditions. He has devised a number of new operations to treat pelvic defects. Robert Zacharin's interest in obstetric fistula was a con sequence of his surgical activity in developing countries.

Vaginal and Laparoscopic Vaginal Surgery aims to re-establish a proper balance between the two methods. It explains each procedure in full and details the roles that each procedure should play in the repertoire of the gynecological surgeon. Gynecologists, oncologists and gy.

Book Description
The second edition of this text reviews the prevention, evaluation and management of complications arising from female pelvic surgery. As the field has advanced and now become its own recognized subspeciality offering Board Certification there is even more interest in this area. This edition provides more specific detail of potential complications of robotic female pelvic surgery, different categories of midurethral slings and specific transvaginal apical procedures. There are unique complications based on the specific mode of sling placement or apical repair and they are further subdivided in this text. Potential complications of both routine and specialized vaginal procedures such as transvaginal slings, cystocele and rectocele repairs, urethral diverticulectomy, and transvaginal mesh repairs are reviewed. The chapters are divided by procedure allowing the reader to easily find what they are looking for. Images and diagrams of methods of evaluation and repair of these complications are included. The second edition of Complications of Female Incontinence and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery should serve as a reference allowing the surgeon quick and ready access to information about the complications of female pelvic surgery procedures – including detail on how to prevent, identify and manage them.
