Book Description
Excerpt from Fats and Oils Outlook and Situation, Vol. 304: July 1981 Preliminary projections of world oilseed pro duction indicate a record million metric tons, up 7 percent from this year's harvest. Most of the increase is due to larger soybean crops forecast for the United States and Mexico. Increases are also expected for Brazil and Argentina, even though crops in those countries have not yet been planted. Larger sunflower seed produc tion in the United States, ussr, and Eastern and Western Europe and rising peanut output in this country and Senegal account for much of the remaining projected increase. The favorable production Outlook should mean greater use of oilseed products, even though a sluggish world economy may limit demand growth for oil meals and vegetable oils. Consequently, little change in global stocks in expected. This year's u.s. Soybean planted acreage is estimated at million acres million hectares), down 2 per cent from 1980. Lower soybean prices relative to feed grains encouraged producers to trim 1981 plantings. This year, about 15 percent of the soybean acreage will be planted following the harvest of another crop, primarily winter wheat. In comparison, 9 percent of last year's acreage was double cropped. Total us. Soybean production is projected at 2 billion bushels million metric tons). This represents a 9 percent increase over last season's output, when drought cut harvested acreage and yields. Book Description
Excerpt from Fats and Oils Outlook and Situation, Vol. 303: May, 1981 Soybean yields in the South Central region tend to deviate from trend less than any other region, with a standard error of bushels per year. If 1981 is 8 nor mal year, then yields will be in the to range. An unusual year could see yields in the South Central region deviating from trend by as much as bushels. If 1981 turns out to be another extreme year, yields in the area will deviate from trend by more than bushels, and production could fluctuate by over 50 million bushels. Based on the definitions presented above for normal, unusual, and extreme years, 1978 was a normal year. Both 1979 and 1980 were extreme years. Yields were extremely high in 1979 and extremely low in 1980. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
In this fully updated edition of his 2013 bestseller Toxic Oil, David Gillespie reviews the latest research from this rapidly evolving field linking seed oils to a host of diseases, including cancer. Over the past century, manufactured seed oils - canola, sunflower and rice bran oil, among others - have systematically replaced saturated fats in our diet. Despite nutrition guidelines stating this is a good thing, our rates of obesity, diabetes and heart disease are soaring. In fact, recent findings suggest that animal fats are not the villains we once thought them to be. As most processed foods - from breads and crackers to mayonnaise and pesto - contain seed oils, David shows us how to identify these toxic products and make healthier choices at the supermarket. He tells us which brands to avoid, which to enjoy - and how to create seed-oil free versions of favourite foods at home.
