Book Description
Poet, writer, and Instagram sensation Nikita Gill returns with a collection of fairytales poetically retold for a new generation of women. Traditional fairytales are rife with cliches and gender stereotypes: beautiful, silent princesses; ugly, jealous, and bitter villainesses; girls who need rescuing; and men who take all the glory. But in this rousing new prose and poetry collection, Nikita Gill gives Once Upon a Time a much-needed modern makeover. Through her gorgeous reimagining of fairytale classics and spellbinding original tales, she dismantles the old-fashioned tropes that have been ingrained in our minds. In this book, gone are the docile women and male saviors. Instead, lines blur between heroes and villains. You will meet fearless princesses, a new kind of wolf lurking in the concrete jungle, and an independent Gretel who can bring down monsters on her own. Complete with beautifully hand-drawn illustrations by Gill herself, Fierce Fairytales is an empowering collection of poems and stories for a new generation.

Book Description
The book discusses the image of the prophet and the role of prophecy in Modern Hebrew Poetry. The first part of the book presents the prophetic archetypal biographies of prophets, heroes and artists in Hebrew and European mythologies. It also examines the historical facts which lead to the departure of the prophet from Hebrew literature following the destruction of the second temple. Finally, it addresses the necessity of reappearance of the prophet in the 18th and 19th centuries in Hebrew thought and literature and provides a short history of that reappearance in Haskala literature. The second part focuses upon three major “prophets poets”: Haim N. Bialik, Avraham Shlonski and Uri Z. Greenberg. The book may be of interest to scholars of Literature, Judaism, Philosophy, Science of Religion, Anthropology, Folklore and Rhetoric.

Book Description
Through the tree lined walkway you wander, feeling the cool misty air upon your skin. The birds overhead make their calls back and forth through the trees, like music to your ears. The soft Earth beneath your feet gives way gently, and twigs gently snap as you continue. Clutching the oversized book; a gateway to the Realms; in your hands you search for that perfect spot where you can be taken away from reality, even if only temporary. Bending, stepping, and waving brush and branches out of your way, you follow a traill only you know. When the branches open, and the brush clears, you can hear the cool spring tinkling as it flows through this private clearing that you have claimed as yours. You become flooded with butterflies, and feel as if you are floating to your favorite spot, light as air. Elated, you settle your back against the smooth bark of your favorite tree, facing the sun rays that are coming through the canopy of leaves over head, and dipping your feet into the stream. You open the book, gateway, you worked hard to bring here. Magic seems to jump off the pages as you turn the paper. Finally, you can escape into a different realm, a different time, a different world. You can envelop yourself with Myth and Legend, or Prim and Prose. With these words, this place, your mind, anything is possible. Welcome to my world of Poems, Prose, and Prophecy. If you believe in the impossible, or if you don't, this collection of writings will surely be able to take your mind to another Realm where you may be able to escape, however short of a time, this reality and experience a bit of fantasy! I live and create in the Magical world. I can see things, I can hear things, and I can predict things. Included in this Collection are my writings, which over the years I have "Received"; whether they be prophetic, or just good writing, I leave that for you to decide. Please, leave your world behind, and dive into mine for awhile....

Book Description
Pulitzer Prize–winning poet Anne Sexton morphs classic fairy tales into dark critiques of the cultural myths underpinning modern society Anne Sexton breathes new life into sixteen age-old Brothers Grimm fairy tales, reimagining them as poems infused with contemporary references, feminist ideals, and morbid humor. Grounded by nods to the ordinary—a witch’s blood “began to boil up/like Coca-Cola” and Snow White’s bodice is “as tight as an Ace bandage”—Sexton brings the stories out of the realm of the fantastical and into the everyday world. Stripping away their magical sheen, she exposes the flawed notions of family, gender, and morality within the stories that continue to pervade our collective psyche. Sexton is especially critical of what follows these tales’ happily-ever-after endings, noting that Cinderella never has to face the mundane struggles of marriage and growing old, such as “diapers and dust,” “telling the same story twice,” or “getting a middle-aged spread,” and that after being awakened Sleeping Beauty would likely be plagued by insomnia, taking “knock-out drops” behind the prince’s back. Deconstructed into vivid, visceral, and often highly amusing poems, these fairy tales reflect themes that have long fascinated Sexton—the claustrophobic anxiety of domestic life, the limited role of women in society, and a psychological strife more dangerous than any wicked witch or poisoned apple.
